Vortex Generator Clairification
Actually, it was designed to work in conjunction with the wing. One of the VG's functions is to channel air toward the center of the car, and more air under/around the wing generating more downforce. They both have independent benefits but the benefits of the combination is great than the sum of their individual benefits. Also, extremely unlikely that the name was originated from vortex.
...... as marginally beneficial as either may be.

In the end, the OP thought he knew what he was talking about, but admitting to buying a knock off VG that has never seen a wind tunnel, and that has been proven by a very reliable source to be very different from a OEM VG, his VG is purely for aesthetics. It has never been proven to be functional.
I bought both, I measured both. They better check their molds in China because the one I received was not close. Thank you for the proper spelling of their name. For someone who wants one for looks and don't want to get it painted it's not a bad deal. For me I'll take the original.

Some of you are saying you like the VG' only for the looks. That's fine and dandy, but the VG wasn't designed for looks. It actually has a job and a purpose. It just so happens to look good doing it's job. It does this the best with the wing intact.
Thank you!
Thank you!
I really don't know. But unfortunately after reading some of the replies in this thread I will be going with an OEM VG and having it painted WW (they don't come painted anymore). It's going to end up costing $100 more but if rexpeed can't come up with legitimate evidence to support that the VG is in fact the same exact size I will be going this route. For a functional part, I want the exact dimensions which actually make it functional.I will still be purchasing side spats and the type-c spoiler from them though
lol

...but for what it's worth, i have a rexpeed VG and have noticed the "it's raining but my rear window isn't wet" phenomenon a few times.
Where is warrtalon to tell you all you're WRONG!? I know benefits are marginal but I didn't quantify them, simply stated they do exist.

exact dimensions? it's the "shark fins" (as my girlfriend calls them) that help glue you to the pavement. if they're there, it should make no difference...

right? I would rather take the word of an actual race engineer who has real world aerodynamics experience, over the word of that internet warrior/evom celebrity.

I'm still reading through this on page 3.
Dino21, that is a great video from youtube, thanks for posting the link. Anyone argueing about what a vortex generator does or doesn't do only need to watch that video and they can be done.
My RS has no wing and of course did not come with a vortex generator.
Over a year ago I got involved in trying to make the car more aerodynamic. It just so happens there are a few guys on these forums that actually know about automotive aero because they work in wind tunnels, Indy EVO is one of those guys. He contacted me when he saw what I was doing and gave me some advise. One of the changes I made to my RS was to add the vortex generator.
How much difference did it make? I'm not sure. I can tell you that my completely legit street legal RS with just an HTA35r on it has gone 155.78 mph in the 1/4 mile. I'd say all these little things add up.
I'd also spend the extra money and buy the VG from Mitsubishi, the company who actually designed it for the EVO.
