Pros and Cons for a New Buyer

I was wondering if I could get the Forums opinions on an Evo MR (Not Evo X) The pros and cons to buying it in the current day we live in. Also some input on the car as a daily driver. Should I sell my current eclipse w/ little mods? Its a huge jump to the MR.

It really does eat up gas so be ready for that. I usually wait till just below a quarter of a tank these days, and to fill it with 93 in expensive-as-all-hell-Connecticut it's around $50. I last filled mine up on Tuesday, and once again I'm down to half a tank, although granted I've been driving a couple hours each day.

Honestly it's all about what you can afford. I hit some tough times where money was short and the Evo almost had to go...can't tell you how much I would love to own a car that I could pay off in a year or two. Still, if you've got the cash and a stable job, then why not live it up?

I'm guessing you found a deal somewhere? If you could provide specifics we could probably help you decide if it's a good one or not...price, mileage, mods, etc.

Not the most practical for a daily driver (although it does have 4 doors and a trunk). High insurance, expensive gas, high performance car=maintenance. Prices on used MR's seem to be holding their value well so expect to pay a premium. Pros are you can have fun driving as you daily drive to work and back.

If you like to drive a car for fun, go for it.
Money comes and goes.

I found an 06 MR w/ 33k miles for 23k. I would pay cash upfront and insurance wont be to bad because im in the military. Steady job, just working through school. Is gas bad on the Evo's if your just driving, not really pushing it every time you start her up? And how about the maintenance and repair average a year? Price wise.

How are you in the Military and in school? Just wondering. Also are you gonna be that guy that dumps his entire reinlistment bonus into a car? Ive known a few. The Evos not great on gas and youll more than likely replace the clutch, tires and brakes (though my clutch on my VIII is still keepin it together)not to mention upgrades. Also it seems like there is some issues going around with MR the 6-speeds trans. If gas mileage is a concern I'd look elsewhere especially since the current Corvette Z51 (LS3 V-8 making 430 horespower 115 mph trap speed) is scoring 26-28 MPG on the EPA highway cycle. Im not a Vette fan but its hard to argue with those numbers.
On the other hand they are fun to drive and pretty reliable in my experience.

I average right around 21 MPG mostly non-highway driving. Stock.
