Someone backed into me

good for you man, i hate when people get away with this ****.
Thought you guys might like an update.
Went to the police station to file a hit and run and was told the same thing the first cop told me: no witness, no proof, no other car on report. However, this cop seemed to sympathize and ran the tag for me. I now know the owner's name and address. Using this, I found his phone number in the white pages. I will probably get in touch with him today. I doubt it'll accomplish much, but I'll just let him know I'm going to give his information to my insurance company and have them handle it.

I decided it will probably only serve to make things worse by contacting him alone. If it was an understanding/good person, he would have left me a note in the first place. So first thing Tuesday I will give his info to my insurance company and have them contact him. Scarier that way.

it is like a catch 22. if you don't know who the owner was, then you just pay for comprehensive which is a smaller deductible(maybe $50). if a police report was filed and even if he says the vehicle was the one that cause the damage, it will be hard to prove that the owner was the driver. insurance will not pursue that and you are SOL because now it is collision with a known vehicle with $500 deductible.
