27 MPG with next to stock EVO VIII
27 MPG with next to stock EVO VIII
Im sure there is a thread around her for the gas mileage wohs with any of the EVO's. I had an interesting recent observation, where I avg. 27 MPG on a 900 mile road trip. Interesting enough, I was able to average 75 ~ 80 MPH the entire way. If you stay out of 75% boost, avg. 3500 to below RPM's, it is attainable.
My EVO is virtually stock, but with an Upgraded AMS IC, and a ACT performance clutch, all of which came on the car when I purchased it...(don't even get me started on that fiasco
sold aftermarket warranty...). Either way, not sure which ACT clutch it is, but it is stiff, and grabs like holy terror when the petal is 75% of the way out...I love this car.
So I was wondering if any of you have had similiar results with your MPG? Also perhaps maybe knowing who owend my EVO prior to me...

I get a solid 350 miles out of a tank now and I fill up at 12 gallons. I also do 75% highway and 25% ****ty city driving with about 30 traffic lights.
I do not drive that easy or conservitivly either. But 29mpg is nice

The most I got was also 350 mile, that was keeping the boost under 5 psi or so, and mostly on freeway driving. when i'm doing city driving, i average about 300~325 miles.
Keeping boost low is the key to better mileage .

I'm lucky to get 20mpg hwy. with my VIII while driving conservatively. However I think either one or both of my o2 sensors is shot. I'm planning on replacing it soon and looking forward to when I can get 300+ mpg.
I still get 350 to a tank with fairly heavy mods (FP Green, cams, injectors, fuel pump, tune, etc) on the highway.
The key to good gas mileage with these cars and most any car is in your driving habits. I do a good bit of city driving and when staying around town I normally fill up when at 1/4 of a tank and I've normally got about 210 miles on the tank. Meaning I should roughly be around 280 miles to a full tank with city driving. I'm also not the easiest on the car, but not the hardest. When I do boost I roll onto the gas instead of just slamming the pedal down. This keeps the car from dumping fuel all at once. Also I do my best to keep from stopping at red lights by using engine braking (matching revs when downshifting) and starting early. It takes more fuel to get the car going from a dead stop than it does while still rolling.
