Finding a Evo is frustrating.
Speaking of resell value and the Evo 8/9s.. Here's a question:
I have an immaculate 1992 MR2 Turbo. Which car would hold more value to the consumer? My Evo 8 that's 5 years old with $52k miles (excellent condition) or my MR2 that's 16 years old with $114k original miles (also excellent condition).

I've been waiting years to get one and just last month my friend who had been hording his 03 evo in his garage for two years finally decided to sell. It needed a clutch and other odds and ends but it just fell in my lap... for a hell of a good deal too!
Nothing a little time and luck can't solve

i checked auto trader within a 100 mile radius of san diego (where i reside) and i found the perfect IX SE. 9700 miles, completely stock, original tires and all the yada yada... anyways, if i didnt have to get rid of my truck so badly, id buy it in a heartbeat for the 26.5 or 27 he was asking for it. i dont need a 3rd car though, so i unless someone would want to buy my mitsu Raider, then im kinda stuck on having to go through a dealer to get rid of it the easy way. i dont mind though. south coast isnt that far from me. they ALWAYS have what people need. never fails.
South Coast has got to be the only place ive seen that doesnt look for the "newb" to get a sale. They dont need to give all the extras and mark up price. they give you whats best before you even ask them. next week when i get back from iraq, im all over another evo! (a IX that is)

I have an IX MR and the transmission still seems strong. And the way I see it buy the one you want and if something breaks, it's just a good reason to replace that part with something stronger and better!
Look in CA i see a lot out there. Socalevo.net is the site for over there. I see a lot of 9 with around 23-24k miles for around 22-25k on there. I sold my VIII i crashed it now i have a honda for a dd till i save up enough for another evo. i plan on geting one in about 3-5 years maybe sooner. I see a couple i really want over there. There is a 05 VIII white with 6067 miles for 26k thats the one i want. I just cant really reason my self to spend that much extra to have 2 cars as of right now. But hopefully i will find a nice on down the road
I hope you find something that works, but if you're not willing to do any work and find something that is retarded cheap and perfect, chances are there is a reason they're not lasting; other people are doing the same thing as you.
Get up off your computer chair and start looking. Some dealerships don't post stuff like that on the internet, such as the dealership I work at, because you get all these bogus calls that waste salespmans jobs.

good luck with your search. I've been lookin' for at least 4 months now. Try california, they seem to have an abundance of 'em out there. I agree, it's a major investment and well worth the trip out-of-state for it. good luck to ya. and btw,
I've found a few. '03 VIII's for $19k with about 50k on them.
and an '05 VIII for $14k with 130k on it.
Is 130k bad for an Evo?
consider if I didn't mod anything to it and didn't run it any harder than needed to get from point A to B, how long could I expect the motor to last?
I saw a thread here, and I've been searching for a little while but I can't seem to find it. It was about what sort of questions you should be asking when making the purchase..threads on tires, VIN numbers to call in to see what/how often vehicle was serviced and for what reasons, etc..anyone know or have the link to it.

I have a mildly modded '03 VIII with 50K on the odo that I am about to put up for sale in a couple of weeks. It's in great condition, I'm in Georgia though.
If you have time to wait and shop, you will find the car you want. And you probably know this, but it's always smart (and not difficult) to check the cylinder compression on the cars you consider.

My first post!
I had no problems finding an Evo(I live in Mexico), I actually bought an STi (08) but at the end had some problems with subaru and didnt get it, then I was going for the 135 but wanted to check out the EVO X since I have always loved evos.... I DIDNT LIKE IT! not at all so I did a quick google search and within 5 mins I found my dream car:
A red IX MR with just 4000 miles, not tracked and not abused at all, not a single scratch. Its also modded (the way I would mod it!) vishnu tune, injen admision, perrin exhaust system and pulleys. And the price was 30k USD
I have to pick it up this sunday and drive 2hrs.
I could not think of a better car for me! I am trading my 07 Mustang GT (also a little modded)
