GDI Mod Potential
OK, here is the fact, in Japan, the COMPLETE Mitsubishi passenger car line-up is equipped with GDI engine. You name it, Lancer Cedia, Galant, Pajero, IO, Challenger (Montero sport here) and some other.
There are currently two vehicle featuring the GDI Turbo engine; the Lancer Cedia Turbo Wagon and the Pajero IO. They achieve a power/displacement level of around 90hp/Liter. Mitsu claimed that they would be the foundation of future "higher performance GDI Turbo" engines....
However, I'm not sure if the GDI will be available here in the US due to 2 factors (1) lower Octane level & (2) higher sulphur content in the US gas. GDI engine's ideal condition is high octane level (to enchance efficiency) and clean gas (to create a fine mist of gas when directly injected into the cylinder).
BTW, GDI is out there for more than 4-5 years, so it is considered to be reliable.

Damn thats pretty sorry. I was going over all the GDI engines this morning/yesterday night. It seems they all output similiar to diesels with lots more torque then their conventional counterparts. Not sure but I think the 2.0L GDI engine was the most effective for its displacement out of that engine class. The 2.5 and 3.0 V6s seemed lacking in HP/TQ.
