Evo Question (price then mod)

So I found a 03 Evo 8 Fs and Its got high miles. Its original owner, a local guy ive seen the car around. 100% stock in terms of mods. Stock clutch and trans. Seemed to shift good. Clutch felt tight. It does have 73k miles and I think I would be getting a good deal. He is a older guy never modded, new struts, brakes, oil changed every 3k miles with synthetic. He is a nice guy and I know the car around my town. So for that car 15k. I was an Evo but Im a cheap ***. Car market isnt doing so well (I sell new ones) so no evo 9 for me for a while.

Also what mods can I do without tune. I heard that intake needs a tune so I was thinking exhaust, dp, boost controller for the time being then in the spring intake and tune. If any one can shed some light Id appreciate it.

not until you do cams/turbo is when you really are gunna need a tune.. its completely alright to drive around with a intake and such, the car will just be running really rich (not really a bad thing, but if you wanted the power from the mods then get the tune)

I wouldnt be afraid of the mileage! If the price is right and if the car is well cared for ..go for it. If you are worried about the motor, have if compression/leak down tested. But it is a used car afterall

Also I have to say I like modding the car myself. Anytime I have ever bought a car that was already modded I always end up undoing a few things that the other person did! Not that I'm better or anything just I have my reasons for doing things versus other peoples.
cheers

Seems like a good price. A kinda high-mileage EVO but if you know he didn't abuse it, take advantage.

how could you say that driving with a intake is gunna be bad for the car? im sure i ran a year and a half without a tune with the basic bolt ons that everyone does (pipes/intake/exhaust/bc) and im sure im not the only person that has done it.. you will run pig rich but i havent ever heard of something bad happening with those mods without a tune

Is an 03 Evo so the milage is not bad, Just like someone else mentioned, if the owner took good care of the car, go for it!

I'm talking about when you said "you don't really need to worry about a tune until cams/turbo". A tune, even on a stock Evo, will make it run better and your gas mileage will go up. If your going to get anything that affects the air/fuel you should get a tune for the car to run right and to it's best potential.
