The price seems to be going higher
Dont worry guys, the only people who are quoting 38k are the salesguys at the dealers who make a bigger commission off of anyone willing to buy the car for that much over in the beginning anyway. Just remember, the longer u wait to buy it, the closer to msrp you'll pay, and the less bugs you'll have in it. Screw a salesman, he only tells you what he needs to in order to fatten his own pocket.
My brother bought a WRX for $23,300 and the options for cost, which made them about half of what the dealer prices were. And it only took him 3 weeks to get it. I have to give the Subby dealers here in the northwest credit, they gave a great deal. I am hopeing
will do the same, thats if they wanna sell cars. Subby was expecting to sell about 15,000 units of the WRX but they sold over 40,000, they got a jump, lets just hope
doesnt get greedy and us.

car dealerships can mark up any car anyway they want to. I work at a ford dealership in ohio and we still have cobra r sitting on the showroom floor, its priced at $75,000 and they are not budging no matter how long they have to keep the car. Evo' s may be that way and they might not be, but think about it, a limited production car from Japan coming to the U.S. with around 270 hp they will sell every car brought over to the highest bidder
really need to get their acts together cause they're failing businesswise. The least they can do is tell the truth and not disappoint anybody. I'm already disappointed with their current products, for example, Eclipse. Anyways, that's my $0.02.

I really dont believe it will be limited production. Thats what they said about the miata, and there everywhere.

I really need to stop reading this rumor forum.
A cool $100 says your dealer has no clue what he is talking about, and probably got his information right here from this very rumor forum!
How does he know what insurance companies will charge? Why does he think the price will be $38k when Mitsu themselves say under $30k? Why won't he take deposits? I bet I can answer the last question...it's because he is talking out his ***.
Anyhow, I know you are just relaying information for the benefit of everyone, and we all appreciate it. But making statements like this: "They are going to run about $38,000. " is clearly false and misleading.
In my view, it is looking REAL good for us future Evo owners. Even if it is a supposedly "tuned down" version, I can easily recover all the lost hp in a few simple mods.

Possible explanation?
New member here. I've been reading for a while, though.
I have owned a WRX sedan since last May. I'm considering the EVO if the price/features are right (it better have AYC at least!). I won't pay over MSRP or much over $30k base for this car.
I am questioning where this $38k has originated. Maybe some of you were quoted some time ago, but I think it is highly possible that some of these dealers took a look at the May issue of Automobile Mag (it's the one with the STi vs EVO comparo and the EVOVIII sketch). In the article, they quote an estimated base price of $37,900 for the UK EVO and $30,700 for the UK STi. The STi price is calculated from the current exchange rate. However, the EVOVII through Ralliart is priced at 29,995 pounds which converts to around $42g's. I don't know where Auto. Mag. came up with $38k (from their asses?).
I am all too aware of the ignorance of most sales people (not all) when it comes to knowing anything about the cars they sell, much less about those that aren't even released yet.
My guess is that some of them saw this article and passed along "estimated" information.

Still??
There was one a local dealer for around $69,000 that I guess sold, it was there for a couple of weeks.
Hmm this sounds like a much better deal...

Success!
[Mitsubishi] really need to get their acts together cause they're failing businesswise. The least they can do is tell the truth and not disappoint anybody. I'm already disappointed with their current products, for example, Eclipse.
are the number one import of choice for GEN X, and Gen Y that's 16-32
year olds. And they've had record breaking months this year all
ready surpassing their forecast for overall sales for '02.
Do you think we'd even have the opportunity to speculate on the
specifics of a low production performance car if they weren't doing
well? I don't think Mitsubishi has lied to anybody about the Evolution.
All of these rumors seem to originate from other sources. You may
be disapointed with their current products, but there are many people
who aren't. Just be glad the car is coming, there will be more details
soon.
