initially, i'd probably baby the hell out of it for the first month, and just do like, appearance mods to it. i want some advan rs's or dare drift rs's, a little carbon fiber, headlights with black housing etc. at this point if everythings good, i'd prob be real attatched to this car and fond of it, so i could justify rebuilding the tranny, that'd be the first major thing i'd do, because that's where most my concern is - how strong the tranny is. and after that i'd play it by ear, i mean - it's got a lot done with it, i'm def not looking for a bigger turbo or anything, the rest of the modding after rebuilding the tranny would just be little personal preference things, or small upgrades and replacements. prob wouldn't put more than... 8k into it within the first year, and that's when i'd be doing pretty much everything with it. and, i got offered a job at advanced auto, so if i follow up on that, maybe i can get a few hookups with discounts on parts and whatnot lol

this seller is really a pain to deal with tho. i was supposed to go out with my dad to see it, leave at 5, get there around 8. then i get a text that he's putting it back to stock and listing it on ebay and that he's really sorry, as i'm on the turnpike coming home from school, to meet up with him. wtf? then he tells me he wants all cash, instead of cash and my title, which is what we agreed to before. now he wants a grand more, instead of 14. and now my dads pissed because plans keep falling thru with it, and he's got some harley thing at 8am tomorrow morning, and we wouldn't be back home till like 1am, and everythings been sketchy and my dad doesn't have much tolerance for it. ugh, unfortunatley tho, it still is the best deal locally-ish, so i'm getting yanked around and going along with all this.

 

It's obvious he has something to hide or he's doesn't want to deal with ya or make money. People like that annoy the hell out of me. Just find another deal, there are plenty of deals out there for you. Just be patient.

 

just look the car over really well. that is about the lowest price you will find for an EVO

Im starting to think you shouldnt buy it, but then again, most "stock" evos for sale have been modded and are now back stock. Really hard decision...

 

did you atleast ask him for the VIN and carfax it? Must be nice to have a daddy to put you through college and buy you an EVO with cash though.... Carfax it, then if it looks solid go check it out. If he's jerkin you around then just forget about it probably something shady going on, I know if I was trying to sell mine and someone had cash on hand, deal would be done.

 

besides at 60K if he's already thrashed the clutch over 15K mi ago and destroyed the stock turbo, it probably got beat pretty badly. Wouldnt suprise me if he tarshed the motor and is now looking to dump it.

deal sounds fishy to me especially if he's switching things up like that at the last minute... I wouldn't trust it. there are a lot of EVO's for sale in your area you just have to look around a little bit. are you dead set on a BBY?

 

yea - dead set on bby. actually just went to new jersey, city park dealer and snatched one. man, i talked i got the price down to 20,700 for it - they wouldn't budge much caussa how many ppl wanted that damn car - and on top of that i gave him my 98 chrysler sebring lxi with 82000 miles... only got 2k for it! they go by the lowesttt dealer trade in values. and with taxes and everything. but uhm yea, he got two grand wortha car from me, and 20,700 cash. it's real nice though - a 41 year old man had it! i got a 90 day warranty, and i'm glad i did...

bulb's burnt out in the corner, right headlight assembly. you know, where the plastic's orange. sunroof tilts, but doesn't slide. they do slide right? uhmm let's see.. it's got one of those flip up head units, and it was working fine, but now it flips up half way n shuts off.. n then 2 seconds later closes itself. like wtf? that's really upsetting me, so i can't play cds till that's fixed. but i had the radio on and out of nowhere it'll get louder n the bass will kick up, think that's got anything to do with it? maybe something with the alternator? idk... he did have 2 12''s hooked up though. so something's funny with that. friday, when i'm back from school i'm going back there and having all that taken care of. car runs beautifully though, i absolutely love it. he does have a stupid oz rally spoiler on it... so as of now i'm looking for someone to trade bby oz rally spoiler for a bby cf wing. oh yea, and it's got a turbo timer, but no boost gage. i didn't even toy around with the turbo timer to see if that maybe has that in there - that's what the dealer said but he didn't really know wth he was talking about and was in such a hurry with everything. but here's the car i bought.

If he wanted 21,997 for it and you gave him a 2K+ trade in and 20,700 in cash I dont think you really talked him down. My math says he got you for $703 plus whatever he makes of your car. Couldnt you have given him like 21,500 cash and then sold your car for like atleast 3K private party?

Anyways yes the sunroof should go back and tilt also. I assume that the issue with the head unit/speakers is something in the wiring. Other then that looks pretty clean from what I can see, you should post some pics of the engine bay. Pink Brembo's I see, nothing new there... mine too. Last please do get rid of the OZ wing congrats on the purchase, oh and get yourself a boost gauge before you blow your motor or worse you drive around below stock boost

 

I think you overpaid. You would have been better off being patient and waiting for a better deal. You paid 23k+ for a 03 when you could have easily gotten a mint, low mile 05 Evo 8 for that price.

Anyways well I dont run your life but I would like to advise you to not put autozone "performance" parts on your car nor take advice from any riced out honda driver that you meet there buying "performance" parts. Stick to the forums, we will guide you straight, for the most part. Some hugely knowledge people on here that have been working on these engines since probably before you were born. BBY FTW

 

i talked him down to 20,700 for the car. then with all the tax and fees and all that were between 2 and 3k, i don't know exactly, i looked at so many number today... maybe i'm screwing something up. all i remember was 20,700 was the price of the car, and he got my car for 2k too...

yep, painting the brembos haha, i'm thinking i might paint em black though, and somehow get it to say BREMBO in white - cause i'm gonna try and go for the whole blue/black theme for this car. it's gonna be tedious to do that, but whatever, the brembo logo that is. then when it looks sick it's time to get it faster i can't wait.
