I'm supposed to be buying this tomorrow...
it's got 62.5k miles on it thoso i'm not really sure, i'd give him 15k cash for it... he's got a lot of mods done to it though, it does however come with all the stock parts and a set of winter and street tires. think i should go for it? anything specific i should look for when driving it/looking at the bay? i haven't seen many high mile evo's around, even 03's, so it makes me think what the life of this vehicle would be. clutch is an 09 oem, with 15k miles on it.
thank you! i just don't want to make a 15 thousand dollar mistake... on top of paying full collision and comp every year at the age of 19 lol

I do not know if I could buy a car from anyone who put tints in there Craigslist ad. It is window tint not tints and I as well as most have probably never heard of the shop that did the work on this car. The price seems pretty good but I would check everything to the fullest extent before buying it.
i tried to buy a low mileage evo and spent more money doing it onley to realise it would eventuley be a high mile evo, now i now eventuley i will need to build the motor, if i had spent less in the begening i could have got a evo moded then had the motor and trany built for le$$
I don't think she will find a good condition IX for 20k.
Run a Carfax on that bad boy and try to have someone look at it.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A USED EVO:
I just recently went through this so the experience is fresh in my mind. The first thing you should do is figure out which year you would like. The '03 is definately the cheapest so if money is an issue, you can start there. Next, if possible find the car with the accessories you would like with the lowest mileage possible. Obviously thats a given. Once you find a car to look at, look real closely at everything. Remember you would like to find one as stock as possible. Look at the radiator fins. Are they slightly bent; does it looks like someone has been playing around in there, maybe changing turbos and putting the stock one back on? Is the stock intake solid, or does it feel loose like it has been put on and off a few times? Check the oil, does it look fresh or is it low and black looking. How do the tires look? New tires especially for this car can be expensive and they are one of the key elements to how this car performs. How does the transmission shift? Naturally the tranny is a bit notchy but you can till what its supposed to feel like. How does the outside of the car look? If it has been neglected, most likely the rest of the car has been too. When driving the car, slam on the brakes. Does the wheel pulsate like the rotors are warped, or is it a smooth stop? And finally, one of the best things you can do. Take down the vin number and call Mitsubishi. Ask them what kind of warranty repairs have been made. One of the cars I looked at had about 6 different $800 to $3000 repairs all on different items on the car. That right there tells you one thing. The car has been driven hard and you dont want it. Also get a carfax report. Most dealerships (if thats where the car is) give a free one. If you have to buy one, its worth the money. Be very thorough and remember that you are spending a good amount of money here. Take your time. If something doesn't look right, ask about it. Good luck, and don't rush a purchase, its worth waiting a little while longer for a nice one.

haha i'm a girl see
<-- but ok, i'll go with that. yeah, the absolute MAX i'd spend would be 20k, especially paying in cash, it's a good price for it i think, but i'm iffy on the miles, that's all. i'd rather have an 03/04, jus because of insurace, and i'm dying for a bby. i figure'd i'd sell some of the stock parts too, except the stock turbo doesn't work. it moves and makes noise, but it doesn't spool. we'll see how much i'll get for that lol. umm yeah, i'll let you guys know how it looks when i see it in person, i'm gonna try and talk him down to 14k though, originally that's what i was going to pay, but he's 'been getting a lot of offers' etc... so we'll see. one other thing, the paint chip/broken clip on the bumper.. if i put a cf lip on it, he said i'd be REMOVING the damaged part anyway, so it'd be aesthetically sound. is that true? i never put a lip on anything so i have no clue.

Keep looking - you don't want to waste your cash on someone else's project car. Also whatever used Evo you think about buying, make sure it doesnt make excessive noise when you let off the throttle above 3,000 rpm in 3rd or 4th gear. You don't want to buy a used Evo with a bad transfer case and the 03/04 ones had a lot more failures.
If you were me I would wait for a lower mileage 05 or 06 and use the wait time to save a little more money for them. You will be happy you did in the long run. You know if it is "professionally modded and tuned" that someone drove the **** out of the car at some point. Find a less molested one and save yourself the headaches. Plus the 05's and up did have the transfer case issues that the 03 and 04's had.
