if you could buy an Evo over again would you do it differently?
Good question. I often wonder this myself.
I LOVE my white IX MR. Don't get me wrong. But sometimes I think about the fact that the 5-speed can be made bulletproof and is the trans of choice in any hardcore Evo and feel a bit of buyer's remorse. The 6-speed is better for daily driving, no doubt about it. But I know I'll want a 5-speed when I want more power and to road race frequently.
So the logical choice: IX SE. BUT...it only came in silver, grey and black. This might seem like a trivial issue to some, but a night before the dealership found my car (saved close to $10k by getting it with only 3k on the odometer), they asked if I wanted to drive home in a graphite IX (non-SE) that night because they couldn't find me a new white IX. I was very tempted but told them I had to sleep on it. I knew I wanted white. And the next day, they found a barely used white MR for what I had been planning to get a new IX for. It was meant to be.
So, white + 5-speed = regular IX. BUT...that would mean no HIDs, no aluminum roof, and no BBS wheels.
So the MR was the only one that had everything I wanted (white + HIDs, really). And since the 6-speed has been perfect in the year and a half I've had it, I can't complain about it. If/when the time to swap comes, I will.
THAT SAID...I only got my MR because I got a great deal on it. It was out of my price range new. So if I had to get new, it'd be a white IX or a silver IX SE.

I bought mine new, originally wanted a GG SE but settled for a Silver SE. But now I'm glad I got the silver and not GG. Only thing I would do different would be to put a larger down payment.
i love my 04 RS....yeah i wish i got a EVO w/ power lock, windows, etc.....but i like the whole idea of the RS....more raw and rare....i enjoy it. im the only 8 RS in the dallas area i think...
Ive had 2 03's with over 50k miles on them when I bought them. Drag raced each all summer and they never had a single problem. Now Im buying another 03 with 15k miles. You can find a nice 8 for 17-18k. Have less to pay on and extra money for more mods which can make just the same amount of power as you would on a 9.
