I need everyones opinion!

So while i was browsing the for sale forums i saw an 03' Evo 8 with 51k miles on it for 14k. I am very interested seems like a really good deal thought i should pick it up. He said the front breaks are bad, paint on the calipers is fading off, and the CF wing is also faded if thats what he means by shot. Another note though he is saying that it grinds going into fifth gear at high speeds but was told it could be that the clutch just needs realignment. But other then that he says the car runs perfectly. 14k Firm.

What do you guys think should i go and check the car out and fix the grind problem myself or do you think its more serious then that? Also would it be worth it me getting the car and beefing up the transmission.

Even though the car is cheap I don't know if you would want to inherit someone elses problems. I would say to look around more and buy a EVO that is in better shape even if you have to spend more money. You may end up spending more money than it is worth in the end if you get this car.

get a reputable mech who knows about evos and have him check it out before
buying, as you might end up on the losing side, check the fs threads some more as there might be better deal available, my 000.002cents peace

clutch is going to cost you $2700 to rebuild the tranny. It needs the snycro's replaced.

Sounds like good deal to me, as long as you have another 4-6k to deal with any issues. or if you are planning to tear it down and rebuild anyway. if you are considering it because you can't afford to spend more it could be big trouble.

Sounds like a hell of a deal to me, go check it out. Look for leaks, maybe check the compression. For 14k, I'd definetely buy it, and be prepared for the tranny to be rebuilt...

You'd have to attach electrodes to my nuts to buy that car. A cheap Evo is not inexpensive.

On top of that, when you see synchro's being replaced, whoever had that car may have not molested it (yea right), but they definitely didn't know how to drive it, which imho is worst than molesting every now and then.

I was thinking maybe i should buy this car and get a Bushwacker kit for the tranny and get it installed if i bought this car anyways. Wouldnt that make since and actually be better then the stock tranny?

There's more to the car than the transmission. Do yourself a favor and buy a good Evo.
