The first car must have been a ringer! I would have gotten the Evo all the close dealers wouldnt lose thier markups, so I got an STi and would have been happy either way.

I remember the article did say something about why the times were different, but I can't put my finger on it. As far as 105 mph 1/4 mile times. I've laid down a couple 104 mph trap speeds with a best of 104.5. Also a best of 13.185 1/4 mile time (1.74 60ft). This equates to a 4.6, 0-60mph time. Just like trs94 stated, "there are a handful of cars that are faster".
I'm sure you're honest but maybe the track or the timing lights were screwed up (it's been known to happen), or your car is just some kind of freak. The fact is, most Evo's are just nowhere near that fast. I mean their are now 6.....6(!) published reports: Automobile, Autoweek, Road and Track, SCC, Motortrend and Edmunds, in which they could not get the Evo under 14 sec.

One or two I can accept (so what...bad driver or broken car), but
6!

Vegatta, could you post Publication, Date and Page and times.

I'll check my library when I get home, but I thought I'd seen more 13s evo tests then slower results.

There are several published reports of the EVO under 14 secs. Sport Compact Car's last test over 14 was the group test with the M3, S4, and 911. They made a big deal out of the fact that in their previous test the evo went 13.6, but due to the heat and the FRIED CLUTCH, the car would not break 14's. It is widely documented that if you really want to break 14 with a fresh car, it's not hard, just requires a violent launch. I don't understand the investment in trying to paint a picture of the car as slow, it's not. Neither is it blazing crazy fast or a drag racer. It IS a sweet, very very well balanced, phenomenally handling car in the twisties and on the track. Speed will always be relative. Be satisfied with the car for it's obvious virtues, and if you want faster, pay the relativily small $$ it takes to go faster. A works reflash or XEDE alone is probably enough to pretty much garauntee that you can always run 13's if you don't care about your clutch.....and that's 900.00 tops.

Right On Brothah!

People need to start posting their lap times at different road racing venues. LAP TIMES! not something from the strip.

100% stock...... i was shifting at 7500rpm in 1st, then redline in all other gears..... was launching at 6000rpm or so... i tried later at 5000 and bogged and at 6500 and spun......

I ran a total of 3 13.4XX's at as high as 102.5mph.

WTF is so important about 1/4 mile times?? Are you Vin Diesel, living life 1/4 mile at a time? Get real. Even 0-60 is useless except for comparisons. The important figures are usually 5-60 (rolling starts like at a light or getting on a ramp) and 50-70 passing times. I think a slalom or lane change is a more important figure, too. These are things that occur in the real world, not in the world where intake manifolds blow their welds and diamond-plate floors fall off...

I don't agree, but at any rate the Evo is less adept at rolls than it is at standing starts (due to turbo lag). And you best believe that the Motortrend car tested this month is much slower in rolls than the previously tested. Most Evo's simply don't make as much power as the original MT car, and that will effect all acceleration numbers.

So the ringer issue is still there, and can't be begged off so easily.
