What would you do in this situation?
I traded my Mercedes SLK230 w/ AMG sport package for my Red EVO and I'll tell you straight up, the only thing I miss is the hard top convertable! But, all you have to do is put your right foot to the floor and you won't wiss a thing! If you drive it like a road racing car and not like a drag car You will be very happy. If you want to drag race replace the clutch with a stronger one.
I sold my NSX for a evo. You should of seen all the chit I cought for that. But I still hang out with the nsx folk. I also like the EVO more then the NSX. I had upto 100k I was going to spend and the evo was the best. Was looking at the 996TT but I can crash 5 evo's for that. lol

Yeah the BMW image is a good one, but honestly I don't know if it's for me. I don't even tell people what I drive because they always go, "Ohhh a BMW?! Woooow..." and so on and so forth.
The ladies like it but how often do I drive to bars and park right outside? Never!! Imagine the dents and dings!
Seriously though, it's really not the image I'm worried about, it's creature comforts. I went from a Civic Si -> 330i and it was bliss, but I can't help but feel like this is a downgrade. Then again, it's a totally different animal and not to be compared, and I certainly don't believe (personally) that it's a true "downgrade". Just a couple of trade-offs you know?

If you like the luxury a STI might be the way to go. It is a little better to be in for long periods of time and it isn't as much of a drivers car. With the evo I feel like I have to pay close attention all the time. The STI also isn't having problems with thier warrenty. I have driven both and are in the same situation as you. The evo is funner to drive but the STI doesn't have problems with clutch and trnny and it is more comfortable.

Actually, I've seen reports that the STi is having trouble with the tranny. Drag launches are hard on an AWD. On the EVO, it's the clutch that gives, on the STi, it's the gearbox.
Both marques are getting reports of warranty problems from dealers in different areas. This seems to be region specific for both marques. But dealers vary even within the same area. Check around your local dealers. And most of the warranty complaints (for both marques) seem to be coming from people who are modding and/or racing the cars.
But I agree that the EVO requires you to pay attention to your driving. If that bothers you, you can go to a 17x7.5 rim and skinnier tires with sloppy sidewalls, and get the equiv of an STi

I am 18 and a work for ACS I am in customer service and I work on cars on the side. I can afford a EVO or a STI but then I wouldn't be able to put gas in it. he he The STI's trans is BUFF!!!! It is the rally car transmission. I haven't heard of one person over on www.nasioc.com with a tranny problem yet but I haven't looked to hard. You could get the sloppy tires and rims but then you wouldn't have the same handleing as the STI. I belive once you get to know how to drive the STI you could beat the EVO on the track. Nobody in the magazines have ever driven a DCCD and don't know how to drive it right. You are supposed to stay on the gas through the corner just a little bit and do a little side of the foot braking.

I did check nasioc, and the active threads are still on about the detonation issue. (I thought a reflash fixed that.) It won't let me use the search engine without registering, and since I went with the EVO, ...
The reports I heard were on ferrarichat, and did tend to lump the STi in with the WRX and DSMs. (You'd be surprised how many f-car drivers have a WRX, STi, or EVO for winter, even though we do make fun of "ricers"
.)
