A friend of mines is trying to buy what he thinks is an evo. however, he saw that there was an oz badge on it as well as the evolution viii logo in the back. The guy trying to sell him the evo said this was an 'oz edition upgraded' and that it is a special model that mitsubishi did in 2003. he compared it to the celica GT and GTS. now i personally think its a fake because i never heard of this special edition oz upgraded rally or whatever the guy was talking about. I have seen many lancers built with a wider body kit, bucket seats, and other evo upgrades. my question to you guys is: have you ever heard of this special oz edition or what not? and what is the best way to compare the evo to a regular lancer (especially if that lancer has A LOT of mods)?

BTW this guy is trying to sell this "evo" for about 22k

 

In my thought from your story i think its a total lie.... and even then 22k for an 03 is pretty expensive...

the interior tells us nothing, engine bay shot, if it doesnt have a 4G63 in it it isnt an evo...plain and simple, also the guy sounds like a BS artist

 

The easiest way to tell is if it's AWD. There was not an OZ edition Evo in 2003, that is BS. The interior looks Evo, especially the headlight height adjustment down on the left. Look for the 4G63 engine and AWD and you'll have your answer.

Look for 5 lug, AWD (rear diff or driveshaft), 4g63, Brembo brakes, etc. It really shouldn't be that hard to tell it apart form a Lancer OZ. There was no Evo OZ edition. He's probably just saying that because he either doesn't know any better or is trying to scam somebody for more money.

Going by the Interior is DOES indeed look ike an Evo though. Unless it's low mileage or in VERY good shape, $22k is a bit too much. I'd talk him down under $20k

 

is it really hard to distinguish an evo from lancer? come on man, why don't you pop the hood and do a visual walk around and then take a look underneath. This is got to be the most useless thread i've seen.

and why did you only show one picture of interior? don't you know evo's engine is different from regular lancer? why can't you take more pictures and show it to us, for example, under the hood, wheels brake, body...

 

If your friend cant tell the difference between a evo and a oz lancer, he does not deserve to own a evo lol .
No but really 22,000 is a lot for a 03! The seller sounds like hes trying to pull a fast one.

 

i thought the oz edition was only lancers.. and even if there is no such thing as a Oz Edition Lancer EVOLUTIOn.

This reminds me of the time my neighbor almost paid $23k for a used "STi". Till I told him they never made the bug-eye front end WRX in the STi version in the US and saved him from making a dumb mistake. As MitsuJDM said, it should be VERY easy to tell if it is an EVO or not.
