2-din kit!

well like I mentioned before, I really hope the US EVO7 comes with the 2-din kit. But IN CASE it doesn't, I found that the part it not only a factory option now, but a dealer option that you can buy.

2-din kit (includes the console trapezoid piece) costs 7,500 yen (roughly 60 USD). you'll also need the A/C control unit (includes A/C controlling unit, wiring harness, and the piece to replace the lower compartment). costs 25,000 yen (roughly 200 USD.)

Here's the interior shot of a JDM Evo7. 1-din, the owner didn't buy the 2-din option from factory.

basically you yank the trapeziod trim piece out and also pull the radio out for now.

unscrew and remove the lower compartment (I think the US Lancers have like a din-size storage tray right?) but I'm sure it's the same piece to remove.

and then install the A/C control unit. Hook up the wiring harness and all those goodies..... slap on the new compartment piece.

So wait a minute, is the a/c control panel all unfinished and rough looking, or is there some kind of trim around it down there? It is kinda dark, and I can't see it too well. I like the idea of just having that slot open below the stereo for putting a CD wallet or something. Cool!

I suppose you could make a trim ring for the a/c easy enough, if it doesn't have one...

It's a standard size slot for car stereos. Single DIN is most common, and Double DIN is useful for big giant stereos that have, say, a tape deck and CD all in one, or a DVD player, or that kind of thing. I think there is also 1.5 DIN...

Look in the first picture of the interior of the car. See where the controls for the Air Conditioning and heat are? Above the shifter? Well look RIGHT above those and you see an empty rectangle(above knobs, below vents). That is a din. You can place stereos, equalizers and other electronic goodies in there. It is just a slot, I suppose.

Basically he is showing us a kit that modifies the console to give us two "dins" instead of one. Thus more room for stuff.

Not sure whether the US Evo will have one or two, but he is just preparing us in case it is one!

as I stated, everything costs about 260 USD. I'm guessing that it'll fit the US lancers, considering that the dash is symmetrical. You can get it........ I don't know. Through some shops that carry Japanese parts I guess. Or maybe have someone go to Japan and get them from the dealer

Or maybe US dealers will have it as an option.

there's a trim around that AC control piece (look at the 1st pic I posted. It's the bottom right one, the one that looks like a headrest).

This is GREAT for people who likes a pocket under the head unit (like you and me), and for others who want 2-din headunits.
