That's an astonishing claim. 30whp from the Injen kit? Can you post a dynograph?

If you don't mind buying slightly used stuff , you can definitely get a TBE in the classifieds for under $500 bucks. I would also agree on a boost gauge, mbc, and a drop in or cone type filter.

Also agree with the tuning, just get an email flash and have either mellon or 4ws guide you through it. I personally have a 4ws tune and he's an awesome tuner and a really good guy to deal with. I have also heard/read great things about mellon so you can also go with him.

Good luck.

I was gonna stick with the stock boost guage. I know its stock. But it doesnt seem that bad. lol

But Talon had so many guages when I was done it drove me crazy. lol (boost, oil, exhuast gas, air/fuel, etc etc)

Is the stock one really that bad besides the fact it is in bars so I have to covert the bar to psi.

As for the MBC I used to ahve a hallman. the style where you just turn it no lock nut etc. But depending on the weather or temp I felt like I was always messing with it to keep the right boost. Maybe just a bad mbc? /shrug.

The mellon tunning does sound like the way to go. I also read that be better off getting a lower ic pipe and ignore the top since top doesnt change that much.

Maybe ill save up and get the turbo back. then spring maybe do the tuning.?

Out of sheer curiosity, what leads you to believe that there's something wrong with the stock boost gauge?

FWIW, the stock boost gauge is fairly accurate compared to boost logged with the JDM MAP sensor. It reads in kg/cm^2, as indicated on the face of the gauge, not PSI. Here's a convenient calculator:

k&N drop in, mbc and qtp downpipe = +30hp with a tune, keep the stock catback. keeps the neighbors off your back and sounds bada$$ when you open it up.

How would you log the boost accurately in an '03 Evo VIII without a JDM map sensor, or AFR without a WBO2 sensor? Wouldn't those two things be necessary for logging for a mail in tune?

What type of gain would I expect from this set up at the wheel? Any idea.

There's no need to log the boost, that's what a boost gauge is for...set it and forget it

good point, I always recommend a wb02 (see www.mellontuning.com) it ensures a perfect AFR.

That is really interesting to hear (a friend told me that was his plan for his 1g DSM). I ask because I saw in the how to tune an Evo thread, it discusses how to redo the boost map at different RPM. Is that just too small of a difference to pay for that sensor?

I'm asking as a noob with no tuning experience. I just saw that thread and figured it would be best to log the boost and optimize it for different ranges, but I'm interested to hear why that assumption is wrong.

it's a personal preference...I like the simplicity of a good mbc/ebc over the stock ecu boost control.
