Another which way to mod post. Im sorry
K here is the situation. I have searched many posts. (Yes I use the search
)
I plan to do a couple things. But not all right now.
I looked at the cobb tuner. it be by itself. I saw a probably 15 hp gain maybe alone with stage 1 programmer. 700.00
But then saw many people dont like it for the gains. Others love it. I dont live near a good tuner so be a good option for me. AMS is bout 5 hr drive
Then I saw with just a cat back I could probably get 15 hp. (Per Buscher) 550.00?
But then people say get a turbo back and gain even more. 950.00?
Turbo back kinda out I dont want to spend 1k right now near the holidays.
I thought the cobb be good cause I dont want to get a mbcsince it controls boost and Had one in the past didnt like it and dont feel like buying a electric one.
btw this is for my 05 Evo MR
thanks in advance!! you guys always been a help

I can tune you remotely and I would start out with:
1 boost gauge
2 manual or electronic boost controller
3 K&N Drop in air filter
4 3" turbo back exhaust with test pipe and good flowing muffler
5 my tune www.mellontuning.com

I vote to stay away from the Cobb Access Port. Either drive to AMS for a tune with ECUFlash or do it remotely with Mellon. From what I hear both are great tuners and will get your car in peak running condition. You definitely want the tune customized to your car and mods which ECUFlash easily allows; plus, you'd be paying for just the software and cable for $120 then the tuners time instead of the insane $700 for nothing more than a few generic pre-packaged tunes.

What if he bought a cat back and then bought an aftermarket downpipe later? I actually considered doing this. Are there any big downsides to doing that?
Turbo back for under $600... DC sport downpipe test pipe combo + perrin catback

Or get the same down pipe ( jsc speed is having a sale) and find a catback you like in the for sale forums.

I would stay away from the Cobb as well. I was going to go that way for awhile as well, but you will be better off with a mail in flash from any of the guys on here who do a great job such as 4WS or Mellon.
There are many great e-mail tuners (especially Mellon) on this site that will cost a lot less than the Cobb and achieve better results. You just have to buy the tactrix cable and download ECUflash and Mitsulogger for free
I def wouldn't go with the cobb. Personally id buy the couple things that chris (mellon) recommended you to get and have him tune it. The car will be much faster and have a reliable tune.

Just get Chris (Mellon Tuning) to take care of you. He is probably one of the best tuners I have dealt with and takes the time to explain why he is doing what he's doing if you are so inclined to ask and have the cranial capacity to understand everything he is saying ( I didn't but damn did I learn a lot when we talked, my head hurt when we were done! LOL)

you dont HAVE to get buschur exhaust, there are definatly great exhausts for way under 1000 and that are just as good if not better. I would definatly go with a turbo back, you wont regret it!!!!
a boost controller is a must as well, your not going anywhere on stock boost, and a manual boost controller is cheap and very effective, get a halman!!
intercooler piping and intake well help a huge amount as well. your turbo will spool WAY faster sounds great and you will see up to 30whp injen makes a kit with all of this for under 400 and you get to keep stock battery
this and a tune from mellon will get you VERY satisfied... this was basically my set up for the last year, selftuned tho.
