i already went to college for manufacturing engineering and graduated with a Associate of Applied Science Degree....I make 1100$ bi-weekly and i'm just an intern...i thought that was pretty good for an employee that they can lay off whenever they please

It's no different than affording anything else. You look at your income and your expenses and see what's left over. Then decide how much of that you want to save and how much you want to blow on car parts. It's important to never consider car parts an investment because you will never get all of your money back, parts can break (making them worth nothing), and they require additional maintenance money.

Save your money. Open a savings account and put it in there. You aren't putting away thousands upon thousands for long periods of time so, there is no real point in looking for something like a mutual fund for that money. Just put it in plain jane savings and keep it liquid.

Then when you have the cash buy the kit. Figure out how much a paycheck you can spare and divide the cost of the kit by that. You now have how many paychecks you will have to wait until you can afford the kit provided you don't dip into the savings for something else.

Everyone is freaking out about credit cards right now for some reason. There is nothing wrong with having a credit card as long as you are responsible, don't rack up huge amounts of debt with it and pay it off in a timely manner. Paying the minimum is for morons.

You live in Nebraska? I'd shovel snow all winter and put all that cash in a savings account, don't spend any of it, and that is your turbo kit!

i have to agree with everybody else. My mom would not let me get a credit card when i was younger. So to build up credit i had to take out loans and pay them back. to build credit over time i got history. The point of my story i been wanting a evo since 03 and my parents would not let me get one end of story. Rather they would not co-sign. They said build your credit up and do it yourself fast forward to now july 2008 i buy my first evo. the car of my dreams. No credit help from them. It tooooooooooooook along time of build but guess what now im able to get as you can see in my SIG other cars like my 350z or my 2 eclipse or my delsol or my 08 gts and soon to be ralliart once they finally if EVER get one down here. I did not have the option of a credit card in fact i still dont have that option. Got used to just saving up. Look at it this way all the evo parts or rather mods i have on my whip i had to save up paycheck and be smart with what i buy. Now i may not be like some people on there and wow the FP RED came out i ordered it today. I may have to wait like 1-2 months but guess what ill have it on my car may not be when it hit the market but at least i now eventually ill get it and WHO knows by the time you get the money for that big turbo kit SOMETHING else will come along thats bigger meaner and better than the one you wanted or as with life things come up other and more important then cars. just do yourself a favor save up the money once you get there take alook at the market then take alook at your current finanical situation and then decide if you really want to blow 4k on a turbo that your really to be honest if its a DD your not gonna use all that power in town maybe on interstate but unless you track ALOT and autocross etc its a waste of funds. get a mild kit and be happy with 350-400 whp you can still kill lots of cars on the street not to mention other things can break if you dont upgrade those too its a ongoing cycle and you never get a return on this investment just enjoyment.

Good looking out PVD04

DEPLOYMENTS TO COMBAT ZONES will earned you plenty of money. Youre coop'd up for atleast a year getting extra money and you dont really spend on anything unless youre on a lush FOB in Iraq.

anyhoos. if you do have a credit card and you KNOW you can afford a few pieces a month, you should put those FEW pieces onto your credit card and pay it all off immediately when the next bill comes around. there's NO POINT in having a credit card if you NEVER use it. not using a credit card will actually HURT your credit.

paying your credit card in full monthly is GOOD for your credit. but like all things you just have to be mature about your spending.

but everyone has their own way of saving money. for me, having ZERO credit when i bought my 05 in dec 04 really put a strain on my pockets. but being military i knew i was never going to get fired or laid off. all i had to do was sacrifice the partying and going out all the time drinking away money. that wasnt hard.

ive only modified my car TWICE. once after afghanistan which i had about $13,000 to blow on parts and another car (the rest was blow it all away money). then i struggled paycheck to paycheck for about a year. then i went to iraq, had money to pay off the car in full, a kit from shearer, a bunch of other things for the evo and the other car, bought motorcycle, and still plenty left over to play with.

everyone knows you dont make a lot in the army. its all about SAVINGS. and deployments will really do that for you. im sure there are plenty of guys on here that have been deployed to a tax free zone earning that combat pay that will agree with me.

so HOPEFULLY with one more deployment i can get that viper ive been drooling for.

I sell things off my car after I replace them. Stock turbo, manifold, exhaust. things like that. Ebay is your friend use it for stuff laying around the house that you don't need that others might then put all that money back into your car.

Find deals here online for new/used parts. There is always people sellign stuff like me right now, my ETS 35R

first rule in how to afford a big turbo kit is you don't talk about how you afford a big turbo kit, lol.

seriously, if you can't afford it don't buy it, simple as that. some people have their parents paying their way so they have more disposable income then others. while other people have high paying jobs and a good head on their shoulders.

If you're living paycheck to paycheck, you can't afford it. Credit Cards shouldn't even be brought up when it comes to purchasing mods. Sometimes people drowned themselves and credit cards are the best way of doing so.
