Real experience with a side impact crash
Real experience with a side impact crash
I'm in the market for an 8 or 9 and have searched the forum for some real life experiences on this topic but I've only found either opinions or the highway safety test
results. Has anyone here had a wreck where they were hit hard by another vehicle on either side door area?
Thanks

Actually there is a some threads on here about this well not actually test but there was a thread up the other day of a silverado smashing an evo actually hit it twice and kept the driver of the evo pretty safe. ill look around for you to see if i cant find it..
As an EMT, I can tell you that I've been to plenty of side-impacts where the driver didn't walk away and three where the driver didn't ever go home again - most of them were 5+++++star crash safety blah blah blah...
Point is, you can just be unlucky. Or stupid.
But, that being said, full FIA rollcage, 7-point harness, race seats, SFI rated gear, etc can make a big difference when it really counts.

^^^ that or you can just post up on the wing cuz they always survive :P If you're that frightened about side impact don't get it. Find a car like a volvo that gives you that false sense of security that you need.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'm 48 and have had performance cars since I was a teenager so it's a bit out of character of me to be that concerned about getting t-boned!
However having a family can change a guy. Been driving an S2000, 68 Charger and WRX for the past 5 years or so but have been longing for an Evo 8 or 9. I thought I would like the X until I spent some seat time in one yesterday and disliked the remote and low driving position. My main reason for checking it out was it's high safety rating however, I just didn't feel as connected to the car as in my S2k or an 8 or 9.
Anyway, if anyone has had actual collision experience I would greatly appreciate your response.

The Evo X has side impact airbags, the 8s and 9s don't and the doors are aluminum and WEAK. Being 48 and a family man if you really want an Evo why not check out a X. More refined and they are much better than everyone expected them to be. I love my IX but I'd rock a X. I'm sure the doors are a bit more reinforced on a X as well (just off the weight and feel of the doors, no actual data on that).
I can see it now. A 48 year old dad dropping his kids off at school with a full cage and the tallest voltex wing they make.
If you're worried about your kids I would honestly go with the X. It meets the new safety regulations, looks more refined, and will be less harsh on the little ones.
