There is a thread in the show and shine section that has most of the info just search "flat black evo". It tell you where you can get the paint (ebay) and im pretty sure you dont use a clear coat.

i believe you use a satin clear as not to have a shine and keep the flat/matte look but also protect it.

my neighbor did a 30's rat rod and used satin clear on a flat black paint looked pretty good.

flat black is awesome. I'd love to get a high quality flat black paint job.

satin black seems to be what most people go with has more of a finished look straight flat always looks like a rattle can job, but yes you should throw a satin/flat clear over the paint.

If your using car paint you have to use clear, you use the clear you regularly would use and mix it with another clear to get the matte finish your looking for. But if its bomb can then no clear is needed

Satin, flat, and matte are the same exact things, just different names. Some guys use a black primer, which works fine. Most are UV resistant, so it works. Most professional shops paint the car black, then use a flattening agent in the clear. Any decent shop or paint supply store can order the flattening agent.

I sprayed a set of wheels for my car last year and did them in satin black. To really have the protection needed you have to have a clear coat, and it is possible to have a clear coat AND a matte or flat finish. There is an additive that is mixed into the clear coat, it's milky white and resembles watered down skim milk. Depending on the amount of "dulling agent" that gets mixed into the clear depends on whether or not it is matte or flat. Most paint jobbers should have this additive, it works extremely well and I highly recommend it for durability reasons.

I second the recommendation for satin with a clear coat. Best way to go.

I love this look. I wouldn't do it to my evo but eventually want to paint a car this way.

PPG and dupont does make a special paint formulated with a "flat" look but will not fade over time. It has a color base paint with a flat clear applied
