It would be expensive and pointless to buy snow tires when im only going to need them for 2 days.

I dont understand how the evo with its awd can handle worse in the snow then all the other fwd cars ive drove in the snow without snow tires. Is it the tires because of how sticky they are and they freeze? Or is it just a warning for those who live in places with like 5 inches of snow or more?
The big no-no is to drive your stock EVO tires (or other summer only tires) in the snow, or any cold weather even if dry for that matter.

If you have all seasons, or winter tires, then you are fine depending on how bad the conditions get. Don't forget that a car has only 4 wheels (and thus tires), no matter if it is 4wd or 2wd. 4wd does nothing to help you stop or take corners (unless you are talking about racing which you don't on the street). The only thing that 4wd does help with (in all practical purposes) is to help get going from a start. In the snow or slippery weather, at speed tracking, braking, cornering will be identical to a car that is not 4wd and it will be 100% dependent on the tires you choose to put on your car.

For me, tires are like insurance. Better tires than others and proper tires for the conditions help me have more control over my car than others and therefore I can avoid any potential accidents with a higher probability than others. That to me is worth it.

best line right here. It's a safe bet to put on snow tires in winter. On my STi (I had dunlop wintersport m3 tires), michigan weather was a joke. While all the cars on the right crawled like little worms, I was on the left lane IN CONTROL minding my own business and staying the hell away from everyone else. Just do NOT think AWD or snowtires will give velcro-like traction (dry or wet or ice). Be very careful in braking (I advise engine braking) and you don't need to go fast.

The control snow tires will give you is astonishing. When making a turn, all you have to do is turn, point the car in the direction you want to go, and control your throttle. You will have a lot of fun driving (and being safe since you're in control).

I will tell you though, my snow tires + awd = I was cruising on the highway packed with snow at 80-100mph without a problem (as in being stable). I recommend not going that fast

I got stuck in snow conditions w/ the stock advans and it sucked, pretty scarry. but now I have all seasons and it is a lot better. different rubber compounds react to different situations.

basically if you live somewhere it snows alot then invest in some snow/winter tires and a set of summer tires for the summer....if you live in a place like i do..Alabama...where it snows maybe once a year a few inches then go with all season tires...i have bf goodrich all season tires....no problems and treadlife is very very good and the ride is much smoother than the stockers....but hey i basically use my evo as a dd...if u race or something u may wanna get hi grip low treadwear tires but they are expensive and don't last very long at all....i think i got 20k miles out of my stockers....sucky if you ask me...lol

To understand the warning you need to know that the tires that come on a new Evo are the worst snow tires on earth. They are absolutely scary in snow. Hence the warning placard on the door. Other summer tires do better in the snow, some are quite good. Of course all season tires or better yet, snow tires make the Evo into a monster in snow.

If you have advans avoid the snow!!!!

You must drive very conservatively. Advans usually last me ~8-10,000 miles. It's a small price to pay for the grip.

Most all seasons are just fine for light-moderate snow. I would say my tires could hold up in ANY condition I will see here in washington. We have 4" of snow out there right now and will be expecting another 4-8" tomorrow night.

All-seasons are no seasons. I recently switched to winter tires and I'm very glad I did. It makes driving around town and in snow a lot safer and a lot more fun.

Just like many have stated, Winter tires perform better when compared to All Seasons. I had All seasons last winter and I still slidded for some reason. But now....it's all Winter tires.
