I Have Toyo Proxes T1R's (Summer Performance) and I tested them out in my driveway in less then an inch of snow. Failed . You hit the brakes and slide. You press the gas and you slide. Basically, unless you can drift very well in the snow with VERY limited traction the entire way to point B don't risk it. I wouldn't run summer tires in 1 inches of snow, much less 3 unless you really have to for something important. If you really have to go somewhere use a different car. If you have no access to another car get some cheap rims and wrap some Blizzaks or something around them and keep them in your garage. If you throw them on for a week when snow is expected and leave them off the rest of the time they will last you for years. It's a good investment and it might be a pain to put on and off, but you will make those 800 dollar winter tires last for a few years which in the end would be worth it. Especially, if it only snows a couple weeks out of the year by you.

regardless of what car you have or what tires you should b careful in hazardous conditions anyway - i do admit that driving the evo in snow or rain feels a little more solid (for lack of thinking of a better term) in that you don't slide around too much vs fwd let alone rwd. As long as you drive carefully and are aware of the elements ahead of you you should b fine (now, those other ppl on the road with you...well, that's a different problem )

I'd say if you have a choice and resources to have two sets (winter/summer) tires is the best way to go. That way you'll get the most out of both conditions. However, a lot of people go with all season tires year around and that isn't too bad either. Currently I have all season tires Mich. Pilot Sport A/S and they handle just fine. Just tested them last night, over 10" snow.
