 total bulls***
oh my god relax. your motor would not be crap as long as you dont beat on the car.
Just drive the tank out without boosting and it'll be fine.
I see posts like this all the time where people are draining tanks, freaking out, and putting additives in the car because they think their precious car CAN'T drive with mere 87 octane in it. Like i said. don't boost for one tank of gas and you'll still be able to burn it and your motor will be fine.
I actually rode to work with a buddy of mine one day who owns a shop and when we arrive there at 7:30am there is a kid standing outside the shop waiting. He said the gas station attandant put 89 in his car instead of 93. he then had the car towed to the shop and was waiting outside since 7am for the guys to get there only to tell him that the car will be fine as long as it's not boosted. The kid still insisted they drain the tank, clean and test the fuel system, and fill it with 93 plus some race gas to counter act the adverse effects of the devil (i mean 89 octane gas) which was put in his tank.
I bet your actually losing sleep over this................lol

You do know your car has a fancy computer that will pull timing when it notices you're on crappy gas? My car's manual even SAYS that. Recommended 93, will run fine on 91 and pull timing when needed, can run at lower speeds/RPMs on 87. Porsche even gave the stupid timing control system some cheesy name, can't remember what it was, just that it had a copyright symbol after it...
You will be fine as long as you drive carefully. Just follow your plan you already posted and I'm sure you'll be just fine.

A few months ago when there was no gas to be had here in the south, I had no choice but to run several tanks of 87 through my car. It was either that or dont go to work or anywhere for that matter. It ran fine, it still runs fine. As far as commuting goes, I didnt even notice a difference.
However if you can afford it, just get a flatbed tow truck to load you up and drive you from place to place.

Rez90 is absolutely correct. Its so funny to see poeple flip out over this. Take a chill pill, don't be Speed Racer, and all will work out in the end.

. I was even pushing it at 80mph plus quick launches. MY evo is alive and well. man dont you love the ecu sometimes
Sherwin Williams - Xylene. Add a gallon, you'll be fine. On a completely full tank of 87 it will raise your octane rating 2 (20) points. It's 117 octane.
14*87+117/15 = 89
That's only a 6% mix of Xylene btw so totally safe. You could go as high as 20 or 30% and be safe in reality.
Octane boosters that claim to raise 7 points really mean, they raise it .7. In their octane ratings, point is a tenth. Guess what most octane boosters are? Xylene, Toluene, MTBE. High octane carbon chains and nothing more. Same stuff you can buy at Sherwin Williams or Home Depot by the gallon.

Just don't go WOT until you have used up the tank
Chances are that the computer will pull timing anyways so you won't hurt your motor (if stock ecu with knock protection enabled)
yeah, just don't boost for the first half of the tank and just top it off with 100 octane if you have it near you.
Otherwise, no big deal. Just granny-shift and not double clutch like you should.

87 is fine, quit whining about it.
I had no choice one day but to put 87 in my DSM and I was right around 48 lbs per/min and I had no knock. I did have to trim the timing some but it was fine.
Considering the Evo has a much more stout motor then the old DSM 7-bolts, I would fear nothing. Turn the boost down and do some logs. You will be surprised.
Hell, last summer when gas was stupid high, I was putting in 87 in the evo (100+ miles a day) just to save a buck and the tune I was using then was fine. Even at 19 psi I only got a knock or two here and there.

do you idiots really think that a manufacturer would send a car out in the market if it could only run on one specific octane rating . One tank of a lower octane fuel will not hurt your engine. as someone said in this thread before your ecu will adjust the timing for the time being. I have driven a lot more expensive german products that require 93 octane and could not get it on the road but the engine is just fine.
