Question Gas Mileage, does this sound right?

I drive an '06 EVO MR...

I recently went on a 750 mile road trip to see my dad, from Nashua NH to Greensboro NC, and I recorded my gas mileage each time I filled up. I had to fill up once before leaving, again 1/3 of the way, and again 2/3 of the way because of the tiny gas tank. I remember doing the trip in my old VR4 and only having to fill once half way and I made it with plenty to spare.

Anyways, the first time I filled up I got around 21.8 MPG, and this is about 99% highway. I only had to stop for a toll or 2. The next time I stopped I filled up and got just over 25 MPG for a number, again all highway. I drove the same speed pretty much the whole time (between 70-80mph depending on traffic). Why would the beginning of the trip be that much lower?

I got around 280 on the first tank and it was pretty low when I filled up. The second tank I also stopped around 280 but I had a little more gas remaining this time. Was it a fluke, or was the car adjusting to how I was driving or something? I still really don't know too much about these cars.

It really depends on how much your in and out of boost. Even though its highway it will depend on the terrain. As you go south the highways flatten out more compared to the northeast.

True, but I'd say that the terrain was about the same. it didn't really flatten out until I hit VA. I was on route 84 and 81 for most of the trip. You could be right, but the way I was driving, it didn't really feel as if the first part used more gas than the 2nd.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Running it at a more constant speed, winds could have been on your side, less up hills (on gas moments), etc.

280 is fine. If you said 180 per tank, then you might have something to worry about.

wow you got me beat! I went on a road trip from north jersey to greenville, nc about 550 miles. I have to say my gas mileage was crap because traffic was flying so maintaining the flow of traffic I was doing average 80 mph and I don't think my car likes going that fast. I would say on a typical gas tank I average close to 300 and that's maybe 60highway/40city. But on my trip down and up, I only hit over 300 per tank once. And that one time I went over 300, I was doing 65-70 instead of 80-85.

I've gotten 310 about 3 times, all highway. I average normally 17-18mpg in town. and 22 on the highway. seems normal to me.

14.5 gal tank and you get any where from 39 to 47 mpg (mostly higway driving) but the car was missing 186 hp .

MR is a lower gas milage EPA rating so nope.

Man I did a 2 hour drive somewhere and back. I averaged like 22.5 mpg. I was pissed. It was 10 outside and at one point it was a completely blizzard white out and I literally couldn't see more than 5 feet in front of me but still...that's sucks in my book. Used to 30+ in the Sunfire.

One did I did learn though is that these cars are flippen awesome against wind. Going 60 (after the freak blizzard thing stopped) and hearing the high winds blowing, I felt nothing at all. Car was firmly planted to the road.

Pissed off at 22.5mpg? You're going to get worse gas mileage in the snow. You're going slower at less efficient highway speeds and crushing the snow as you go forward increases your rolling friction, not to mention the wind. What did you expect?

Show me another car with near 300hp that can get 25mpg.
