Modded EVO or new S4
I really am not that impressd with the whole M3 thing. they have been using the same interior treatment for the last 20 years in their cars. They transmission while strong, feels very rubbery to me, and the throws are a little too long for my taste. Although it is a fast car, the 333 hp comes at 7900 RPM, just 100 RPM shy of the redline, so I really think that this power number is a little inflated. AS for SMG, real sports cars need real manual transmissions, enough said. I agree that the SMG is a nice product, and is lightning fast, but it is too good, and takes the fun out of driving.
P.S. I appreciate everyone's posts here about the EVO vs S4, Looks like the EVo has bee declaired the winner.

I would definitely test drive both cars... After owning evo for
a few weeks... I would say that for those that do not plan on
taking the EVO to the track... Get something else!!..
EVO's ride is harsher than these few cars that I either own or
driven a few times...
Stock E36 M3 with sway bars
Stock E46 M3
Stock S2000
S2000 with Tein RS coilover
E36 M3 with H&R springs & Koni shocks
Only 94 Supra Turbo and Mini S come close in term of ride
harshness...

ummm... the new S4 isn't faster than the EVO in a straight line, check your souces. Check the issue of SCC where it is EVO vs. Germany. The S4 didn't preformed well when compared to the EVO, M3, and C4S. All in all, its still a nice car..... but no EVO
Yep, I try to get to the track about 1 time every month or 2, and not the 1/4 mile. This is where you can see what the evo can do and it helps understand what the evo will do at speed. Again at the track and had 0 problems and drove it to work the next day. Great car!

The fun is to get the Evo tunned and go romping... the Porsche is a fairly sophisticated sports car. If you want to make a real comparison look at the Boxter and the Evo. The Evo is awsome for the 30k it costs.
I have driven a few cars fast and to me the evo feels fine through 4th gear. The Evos road manners are excellent right out of the box and seem to me to be a little friendlier than Porsche's. If I were to drive on the Autobahn I'd go with the Porsche, but I don't, so I didn't. I do live in N. CA so I bought this dynamite, bad *** little sedan to play with on our mountain roads and to tantalize the Mustang, Camero and pick-up truckers around town (gawd they hate seeing the over sized wing pulling away from thier V8s).
A close friend of mine with a turbo Carrerra, thinks the Evo is really fun (especially after she dusted a z28 with mine) but not a good car at speed (she likes to drive her Stuttgart stormer at 170 where and when possible). My son thinks the Evo is fun as well but says it feels like a bucket of bolts at 150 (he is comparing it to his CLK 55 AMG, not the Vette he used to brag about). I guess it's all in what you like to do with your car and what you want to spend for the thrills you seek. I love my Evo wimpy clutch and all so I will probably get another one in a couple of years. If I want to play with a Porsche I'll just trade for the weekend.

?? I have both cars... I can drive them back to back...
E36 M3 takes small bumps much better than my EVO...
And, I've checked my EVO.. dont think the spring spacer is in
there
.... though I didn't jack up the car to check...

The BMWs have a different sort of "firmness" to their suspension, the EVO is different, but doesnt feel "harsh" to me.

If you are looking for speed without compromise, take the Evo. If you want a luxury ride take the Audi. I think I would take the Audi, because I like the way it rides and looks much more. They are both fast - but the Evo kept up with me longer than the Audi. If the question is mod potential, dont kid yourself - you can do all the mods to the S4 you can to the Evo, but dont forget you have 2 more cylinders and 1 more turbo to work with.

you have 4 more cylinders and NO turbo to work with
have a nice day!
i'm talking about the turbo S4, the 2.7TT, the only S4 in my book. the v8 is disgusting. who wants a V8? its not to say V8's cant be fast, a BPU LS6 is disgustingly fast, but personally i agree with not wanting an audi V8... i assumed, i guess wrongly so, that you were all talking about the 2.7T S4, which is, imho, a very nice engine.
no need to get sassy, GranMassa. Just trying to help.

Forget the EVO or S4...
