MR shift knob?

Asking for a friend, how the heck do you get the MR shift knob off? I found a post in the how to section, but most of the people said just twist it, and then someone says there's a screw under the sticker on top. Before my friend rips the sticker off the top of the knob, can someone confirm if there's a screw under there that needs to be loosened?

Ok, so channel locks and an old tshirt is the order of the day, no screw securing it on then.

Thanks, gentlemen!

Yup, it just screws off. Take something like tennis grip tape and wrap it around the shift knob and then just turn hard.

i did it by hand, just to warn you, it's quite difficult to screw it back on and have it be straight again.
curious, somewhat on topic question. does anyone know if any random aftermarket shiftknob will fit? I'm tired of freezing my hand off in these cold winters, time for a nice leather knob.

Most of the aftermarket ones that are universal will fit but there is a catch. They usually come with different size sleeves that pop into the knob and then it slips onto the threads. Basically they are held on by friction if you will. Some other designs have three screws which when they are tightened they keep the knob from falling off. Personally I dont like any of the universal knobs because they always spin around and such. My friend has one. Your best bet is to get one that is specifically threaded for an evo. I forget the thread pattern but I believe its the same for all mitsubishi's and nissan's. Oh and if your interested I have my leather knob off my gsr sitting around in perfect condition. Ill give it to you for 20 bucks shipped

Yea the OEM MR is pretty cold during the winter but I swapped mine out for an ARC titanium shift knob and its even worse lol. I just deal with it I guess or if its really cold, ill put a glove over it. I love the way it looks so ill never get rid of it.

Just grip it h*lla hard and twist it counterclockwise and you should be good. I replaced mine not too long ago with ARC shift knob.
