Insurance companies don't profit by paying out.

If your transfer case wasn't new to being with don't expect to get a new one when it's in need of replacement. All insurance companies follow this practice because it's fair and they will guarantee the work done as long as you have it done at an approved shop.

This has nothing to do with why the economy is in the shape it's currently in.

I only had trouble in dealing with insurace companies once and that was b/c it was a very small company(not mine, it was the guy that hit my car's insurance). But my GF had a similar problem with her scion TC she was in a accident and the insurance company couldn't find the same kind of side skirt that comes with the car after a couple of months she called them up and asked if they could give her the money equivalent to the part and they cut her a check now she is getting a body kit for her car

UPDATE: So I talked to the adjuster's manager and explain my problem. It took about 15 minutes, but we eventually agreed on getting mine rebuilt, but then late today I get a call from my agent saying that they are not covering the T-case at all . I'm so pissed. I ask him why and then he proceeds the tell me that they don't have to cover anything if I cant prove that the damage wasn't already there. They are saying that it was just a perfect coincidence that the T-case was damaged the same moment as the rest of the car. Are they serious!

Ya we're going to be moving our insurance to state farm. A highschool friend and my Gym partner, works there. She is going to hook me up with every discount they have, plus her discount

I think I might just cut my losses and pay for a rebuild out my pocket. On the plus side I got a Evo 9 bumper

the shop told me it had something to do with direct trauma to the T-case. Trust me there was T-case fluid everywhere.

state farm lol never had a problem with them. When i had my eclipse spyder. i had just painted it orange and got my custom body kit on it. this is a 96 i converted to a 98 etc etc. some lady in a highlander backed right into me and put a HUGE i mean HUGE hole in my quarter paint and rear bumper missing in action. State farm said we will take care of it and get the money from her insurance they cut me a check for how much it would cost to fix the damage now they did send a adjustor but i had already taken the car to my friend had him write it up of course using top grade parts and a whole new rear bumper and side skirt(remember body kit on it) and the adjustor looked at it and the orange panit then looked at my estimate and said man thats custom approved i recieved a check shortly after and fixed and repainted the quarter panel myself and bought anew Predator hood that i never mounted lol.

California has regulations specifically governing this issue. Check out page 7:

When it's rising water flood damage, it's covered under comprehensive. A transfer case could be damaged in collision or due to improper towing or a variety of conditions covered under insurance.

Here's an angle for the OP, putting a used or rebuilt transfer case in your car may void your powertrain warranty if your Evo still has one. I had a motor in my 3G Eclipse get hydrolocked and had to file an insurance claim. They wanted to install a used shortblock, however my car still had new car warranty left and the used motor did not have a warranty - I raised hell about it, and the insurance company ended up purchasing a new short block from Mitsubishi so that it would have a warranty.

Switch to Esurance. My qoute was thousands cheaper then anyone else, and I've had to use them to fix stuff twice, and it was no hassle, super quick. I have friends that work at body shops and they said they love taking Esurance cars for the same reason, no red tape, no extra adjustments, no 2nd inspections. They pay, and pay quick.

They covered a new front lip, under tray and FMIC after damage from a pothole hit that happened months before. They fixed my broken-into rear triangle window super fast, the glass place called me the same day to set up an appointment to come to ME to fix it. 2 days from the call and my car was fixed. The pot-hole incident took.....7 business days?
