Evo VII in high speed handling comparison

Just picked up Road&Track & there is a high speed handling test with the EVO VII against:

360 Modena
Z06
911 TT
Lotus Elise
M3
Boxter S
Mazda MP3???????

Evo placed 4th in good company loosing to the 911#3, Lotus#2,360 Modena placing #1

no new news on the US EVO.

Also this month in Japanese Performance they feature the EVO VIIFQ-300.

I just picked up that issue too. I haven't gotten to read it yet since I haven't had to go sit on the porcelain throne yet!

Um, lets see...the Evo costs just under 30K.

The Ferrari, Lotus, and 911 are all upwords of 75k....at the minimum. As far as I know the standard 911T is ~125k, the GT2 is 180k or more.

The bottom line here is that the Evo is handling with the BEST cars in the world, at a mere fraction of the cost. Plus, when was the last time someone took a 360 Modena out for a spin on a gravel road, coated with snow & mud?

where the hell did u get the idea from? there are quite a few cars that would beat a evo on a track...i know 911 tt has...murcielago did as well...a diablo vt 6.0 would...a modena 360 would...id be even willing to bet a zo6 vette could.

anyways high speend doesnt determine handling in turns and corners...more like downforce...mroe downforce the more stable the car is at higher speeds.

Ah....dunno about the Z06 vette. It actually placed 5th, right under the Evo in R & T's little test. But then again, it all comes down to who's driving too. But I do agree with you on the rest. These cars are made specifically with overall perfomance in mind.

Did like one of the testers quotes though. "To me, heaven will have a dirt road course and a new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII always at my disposal." Well said!

Ok you said "high-speed handling test"

Are we talkin high-speed slalom here? or what?

If we are then I can see why the Evo might get beat.....the Evo's high-end isn't even comparable to the cars that placed above it

The actual test was held on 2 parts of the east loop of buttonwillow raceway...in CA. They used a increasing radius hairpin turn, and a quick right/left that "tests a car's transitional composure and lateral grip". On a side note, before they came up with just the 8 cars, they tested 20. Those that made the cut, went to the "final testing". A couple of those that got cut were the Miata, S2000, and the Viper.

Did it mention the 20 cars in the article--I missed that. It's hard to believe that the mp3 made it and the s2000 and viper didn't.

I believe they were partially doing it out of price range as well. Just because the MP3 is slow and costs <$20k does not mean it doesn't handle well.
