Watsup guys, i just got an 05 gsr 2 weeks ago, only 20k miles, did a lot of reading got the car diiagnosed and i was right - transfer case needs replacement.
Now the dealer is offering to either fix it (I'm trying to do the shep tranfer case), or he can give me back my trade in and take back and auction the evo.
Now, Im worried the transfer case will go again and I dont have the money or the want to replace it, I always wanted the EVO and I finally got it but coming from my last cars (Audis) I expected the evo to be a bulletproof car in a way.
Should I return the evo to the dealer and get a 335 or another S4, or e46 M3 or keep the evo, which I want to do but I am afraid of reliability.
What do you suggest aside from all the evo love?

Wow bad transfer case in only 20k miles means the previous owner beat the **** out of it.. if you love teh car just get it replaced and it will be fine.. but you have the chance of other problems if the transfercase is bad already.. imo get it fully inspected by a local reputable evo shop and go from there
Yes, thats exactly what Im worried about, it looks new and is modded slightly but you never know. I took it to a very reputable shop here in boston and the guy knew it was the tc right away as well as the rear shocks gone bad. Im worried for more issued after my warranty is out in 2 months. How reliable are these cars, even if it was "beat" on

do a compression test and see how healthy the motor is.... wow, 20k miles and the tc is toast weird because i tracked my car alot mine is still goin on 80k miles....
it could also be some fool who replaced it with the wrong fluid, what if what if haha

I would get rid of that car. If the TC is going out at 20k miles, your bound to have many more problems down the road. The car had to of gotten beaten to death and definitely not taken care of right.

Ive been in this dilemma since 11am today when i dropped off the car. Ive been into these cars for years and finally getting one and having this issue really threw me off and i started looking for other cars, as well as other evo's...then I decided to keep the evo since it IS what i want and now decided to post and see what kinda advice i can get from fellow evo owners.
Ive been on audi forums for 7years and experience counts the most..so, give her back???

Give it back and find a different one.
It's a shame that your first experience owning a Evo turned out like this, but don't let it stray you away from getting one that is taken care of.

I bought my 05 evo from a dealer with 19k on it and the tc also went in like a month i ended up spending alot more money replacing the whole tranny but do a shep tc or the M3 depending on the year

i think id take to dsg or someone who really knows evos and let them evaluate the car. depending on what they say, then id make a decision on the car. the transfer case could have had the wrong fluid put it in ect.. there are a lot of reasons that it failed. get it really looked over before you ditch it esp. if you are that into evos. good luck

do a compression test or leakdown test, if that turns out ok then keep the car and get a new transfer case.
if the testing turns out bad, give the car back.

I did take it to DSG, thats where I was going to get it dyno tuned right before the tc happened. From what the guy told me im not sure, DAMN!
