I have nothing wrong with luxo image rides, but...

Just a little FYI before you think people who don't drive certain marques of cars can't afford them.

I was just about to pick up my brand new, fully-loaded silver M3... a gift for graduating med school... when my dad told me how much he spent for the car... this is right when the car came out. I was on the list the year before.

We went to the dealer and I told them to keep the overpriced beauty. Yeah, great performance, but BMW must be smoking crack to think that a they can sell a beefed up 3 for such a premium. At the end of the day, I didn't want to be the little rich boy and I didn't want to pay for name. I wanted a performance auto without the brand stigma. So I'm waiting for the EVO... if that isn't what it's supposed to be, then Skyline, etc. Cars that are exciting because they are for that reason. Not snob appeal.

So go answer and talk on your phone while driving and just remember you fit the profile.

I'll stop my car, answer my page, and call on the phone to think and save lives. Oh yeah, I also run my own multi-million dollar investment portfolio. Not bad for a 26 year old .

That sentence shows me you know nothing about performance cars.
The freeway is NOT a place to "beat" people. That's quite an immature statement there.
And do you seriously think that your "opponents" on the freeway put up a fair and square "fight" with you ? There are SO many variables on the freeway, not the least being OTHER PEOPLE around you that don't really want to see freeway racing.
Take it to the track/AutoX or shut the **** up, you don't belong on the freeways.

And even on the track/AutoX, so many variables come to play that it's close to impossible to really compare two cars, not the least being driver skill.

It all comes down to personal preference, that's all. Personally, I'd rather have a BMW (which I do, see sig) than a GS any day.

keep up with the demand.. even with that much premium...

I agree that BMW drivers may have this rich snobs that drives with
their cell phones image to them... but there are also alot of true
enthusiasts out there... There are over 50k members in BMWCCA...
they hold auto-x sessions as often as everyweek...

Oh ya.. and how would different car matters for driver picking
up a call from the cell phone or not???

 

This post shows me you know nothing about respecting other people's opinions. I do racing on freeways. Maybe you go to the track every weekend and race people there. Good for you. I don't remember the part where I asked.

Did I say that freeway races don't have any variables? Why are you making things up? Don't be so ignorant and make yourself sound like a saint. If you can't have a conversation and talk like an adult, you don't belong here. Where I race is my own business and I never asked you about your opinion did I?

You said all these crap and end up saying everything is perfornal preference. Then why the long lecture trying to make yourself sound like the only real voice in the world? Give me a break man. I'm here to discuss the Evo not to keep you busy.

 

M3/M5s are some nice cars man, and it sounds like you can have all three, along with the Evo The Evo will be one awesome car and you are smart for waiting for it to be released in the states. If you want one now click on the banner that imports Evos to the US and modifies them in order to be street legal for about 37K. If I'm not satisfied with the final specs of the US Evo I'll go ahead and import one.

I love BMW's, but for the most part I hate BMW drivers.

Granted there are exceptions, but most of the people with 500 series, M3's, M5's....just don't drive their cars like they beg to be driven. Seriously, why pay for a car like that if you're not going to use it as it should be used?

I think for the most part the 300 series is a waste of $$$$....my Saturn will out due a 328 on the skidpad.

Just because they dont' street race dont' mean they don't go to the track. As one of them I have an import jam trophy that says otherwise. I've also seen Dinan superchared M3 on the track but seeing M5 are rare. Most performance people will go with the 3.

 

I am sorry but I don't respect people like you who endanger innocent people on the freeway. You wanna race? go to an AutoX, if you can't afford track. It's CHEAP, and safe, and you'll have something to prove there. What do you have to prove on the freeway?

I don't track every weekend no. I track 6-7 times a year, but AutoX very regularly, about 2-3 times a month.

Anyone here who is whining about BMW reliabity is going to be in for one hell of a shock when the EVO hits the US shores!

Price is set by the law of supply and demand. M3's are selling for $10,000 over retail because their a great car and the market will bear it. So what if only rich people can afford BMW's, they are welecome to buy a Lancer or a Civic as well. Many BMW owners are performance enthuiasts as well. Yes some BMW owners act a little differently towards other drivers. Hell I would be snobby too after seeing the 50th riced out lime green civic of the day swerving in and out of traffic! BMW concentrates on RWD normally aspirated cars with manual transmissions and a chassis tuned towards a sporty side. Thats a drivers car if you ask me. Not some pizza cutter wheeled front wheel drive intake honking 4 cylinder econo box.

All the money I had went to purchasing a car that would make look rich, so that way I don't have to tell people, they will just say " ahha, he Drives a BMW, he must be rich."

 

Funny how people sterotype people based on what they drive. Evo is not going to be cheap but, people who drive evo's are pure enthusiast whom would buy a car that cost 30k which looks like a 14k car.

I don't swerve in and out of traffic putting people in dangerous situations. Are you saying there is no possibility of getting injured while AutoXing or doing a track event? What do I have to prove on the freeway? What do YOU have to prove on the track? What I do on the freeway is up to me, and if you love to go to the track, that's just great.

I'm sick of people saying all they want to race is on the track. Do I really want to know if you do? That's your opinion and doesn't bother me. Just don't make it mine. Unless you're buying my car, what I do with it is out of your reach.

BMWs are great performance cars but do they really have to cost that much? If the extra cost isn't for the IMAGE, then what is it for? Don't tell me that it's for the built quality.
