engine/tranny serial# or vin# locations?

hi i am a new owner and would like to know where are the engine serial# and if any vin# for the engine/tranny? how do i know/tell if this is an original engine?

I brought this car at the dear and the carfax if clean, but i suspect the engine had been out before.

engine/tranny serial# or vin# locations?-resized-vin-tags.jpgThe engine VIN tag is on the drivers side of the engine block directly below the head surface on the side facing the transmission. The transmission VIN tag is just below and forward of that same spot (on the transmission obviously), facing up and forward just above the starter. See the red circles in the picture I posted. Obviously this is easier to see on mine since I have things taken apart for a turbo upgrade.

so you have to take stuff out to see the vins? what needs to be removed to see the vin?

Only if you don't have good eyes

I can see mine without removing anything and I have stock upper pipe and stock airbox in place.
