Car got broken into...advice?

Hey guys,
well I came out of my apartment to go to school when I noticed that my keyless remote didnt work. Well to my surprise, I noticed that the small rear seat window was smashed and thats how they entered my car. They took my GPS, V1, Turbo timer, Alpine headunit, OEM MR gauges, MR shiftknob, tactrix cable, OEM carbon fiber trim, clock, OEM MR Floor mats, and various pieces of the cars trim. Furthermore, they also took my SLR camera, cell phone, my paintball equipment and even my TOOLBOX?! They also tried to steal my wing but I stripped one of the screws so it doesnt come out Oh, they also tried to steal my intake and took all these random fuses out.

The car is still drivable, but I hear an odd squeal from the suspension and it just runs sluggishly.

This is my first encounter with this and I dont know what to do. I live in an apartment complex for students thats off campus. Its an underground garage that requires an electronic key to get in. Three other cars were broken into.

Ive already contacted the police and received a case number. Im going to call my insurance company soon.

Can anyone tell me whats covered and whats not? I read that they will cover items that are attached to the car? So does that mean they will cover my radio, V1, and GPS? What about my camera and other things that were in the car?

And lastly, where should I go to get everything fixed? Should I go to my local Mitsu dealership and get everything fixed there? Will they replace the OEM stuff there?

I would take pics...but I dont have my camera anymore..

Thanks in advance!

yea i agree you go to the dealership the get the HIGH VERY HIGH fix quote. So if they send a adjustor he can see your going OEM. then you buy all after market parts better parts maybe save more money to do a turbo upgrade or head upgrade or body kit but you BETTER PUT A ALARM on this car this time around . I would get one of those viper dual alarms systems one under hood and one hidden so if they mess with it again the sound of the alarm is going to be so loud it will scare them off also if they think they are wise and pop the hood to cut the speaker its still going off and they are left wondering why and by then all the noise is to much attention.

I don't believe the camera and the other stuff in the car, but I believe your renter's insurance will if you have it. That was the case with my buddy, except he had home owner's insurance.

I feel bad for you but why did you have all those expensive items in your car? I can understand the radar detector, OEM parts, and stuff that is permanently affixed to the car, but what about the GPS and camera? Was all that stuff visible through the window? I'm not trying to make you feel worse. I'm just trying to understand the situation. I would definitely find the place that gives you the highest quote and then buy yourself an excellent alarm system.

I know exactly how you feel. When I had my VIII thats exactly how they got into mine and stole all electonics. But they didn't try to take any parts of my car.

I don't think I have the option threw my insurance to have the lil things covered. I believe there covered if your have renters insurance I think. If not then the lil stuff is gone. I know radio will be covered, Not sure about the gps or RD.

Good luck, and hopefully things get fixed in a timely manner. And if your lucky they catch them.

Thanks for the advice guys. I had everything in my car from a past trip up to NJ for a paintball tournament and have not had a chance to clean everything out. I hear about these car thieves around my area but never thought it would happen to me...plus its in a enclosed garage with an access key.

Sigh...I already made an appointment with my local mitsu dealership on Friday. Do you think they will replace everything that comes stock with the EVO MR, especially the gauges?

Also, WWevoX you mention that they will cover the radio? Do you mean that they will cover my aftermarket head unit? If not, can I just get quoted for the OEM radio and use the money on an aftermarket head unit?

I looked over the engine again, and I noticed the ECU is gone... Is it possible for the car to run without the ECU?!? I did notice that I did not boost as quickly and everything is slow...

Oh, and the alarm is a MUST right now...Going to get one installed ASAP when everything is fixed.

Thanks guys!

I don't think it will run without the ECU, lol. Must be something else you are looking at that is missing.

I just cant believe Evo owners would do this to each other.

However, they also attacked other cars so I dont know if they own an evo, but they are experienced with cars.

Really sorry to hear, same thing happened to me three weeks ago. broke into a gated/magnetic key garage and into only my car. Smashed the driver side front window, tore out the dash, took my radio and checkbooks.

But on the bright side the guy tried to cash two checks the next day and got caught there is hope!

I went through the dealership for the window and put a new radio in myself

that garage should have cameras installed.. insurance will only pay for what your evo came with from the factory.. nothing aftermarket. cept for the radio. all the other stuff comes from the home insurance.. unless you tell them you want all the aftermarket stuff insured also. keep your eyes and ears open your stuff will show up somewhere on craigslist or something. oh and the insurance companys always wants to go the cheapest way when it comes to fixing things.. meaning aftermarket parts and used parts before they'll go OEM. they'll send an adjuster out to look at your car. meaning you can't go to the dealer. insurance pays only about 45 bucks an hour mean while the dealer charges 90 an hour. so unless your willing to dish out half the labor rate you can't go to the dealer.
