heh I know
just pulling your leg!
Americans pronounce it "EE-vo" and "EE-volution"
The Uk/ex british colonies + most other countries pronounce it : "Eh-Vo" and "Eh-Volution"
Different countries... different ways of saying things... Same frickin car!!

Almost every asian I talk to says "eh vo" and those that are "whitewashed" say "eee vo". Every american I talk to says "eee vo" also. How do they pronounce it in europe? "eee voah"?
apparently sti and evo get along fine in Japan
Great video. What is initial D? Sorry, I'm new to this stuff. The old guy seems to be the better driver of the two.(by a slight margin but still)
I don't even get how they were able to determine the winner. Was it just based on how close they were in the beginning relative to how they ended? Are you allowed to pass? What if the person in front pulls a f1 restart trick on the last corner?(slowing down to a VERY low speed and Launching yourself out when only you are out of the corner)
Even w/ all the confusion, it looks like it's so much fun!!! Thanks for sharing.

FYI, that was from the "Best Motoring" tape vol. 2.
Check http://www.bestmotoringvideo.com/index.html
This is a GREAT series of programs for auto-philes
with heavy emphasis on the EVO. Vol 5, I believe has
a full section on the EVO vs the STI and Vol 7
is about the EVO 8 with full details.

Can somebody explain to me how this works?
The 86 wins both uphill and downhill against the "Impreeeeeeeza" but on the downhill the 86 starts behind the Impreza and stays there for the whole duration of the race.
Is this some special rule of the Touge? Why does the Impreza driver say: "oh no!" when he's in the lead and passes the finish line still in the lead? How does he win???
Does the driver behind him only have to catch up to a certain distance or what? Is this because passing opportunities are negligible/dangerous???
And for the record, the rest of the English world DOES NOT pronounce it EVVV-O like in this movie. If any of you know Top Gear Magazine in the UK and Top Gear TV especially, their narrator spends the whole of the Evo VII vs WRX STi segment calling it the EEEE-VO which I suspect most of you do.
It's just Tomaeto/Tomaato. Actually I believe the dub actor on this video is the same as the one who does Extreme Elimination Challenge and Iron Chef.
Speaking of that Top Gear segment, it was fantastic, showing Evos I through VII as well as the STi. Unfortunately, he choses the WRX Sti over the Evo VII "as a matter of personal preference" as all those Auto Journalists have said the same for the VIII vs STi. I wish I could show it to you but it's 15MB. Maybe I'll upload it to the FTP that's on the top of the board soon.
And finally, for those of you who don't know what Initial D is, it is a serialized manga (comic) series and a very popular anime (animated cartoon) from Japan about street racing, especially mountain racing and techniques like drift. It's the sheer antithesis of American Drag.
The star of the show is a Tofu delivery boy who drives an AE86 Trueno (think production souped up 1986 Toyota Corolla GT-S) and summarily defeats all his opponents including FDs, Evolutions, etc. going up and down Akina Mountain.

Spare:
They determined the winner by the margain of victory (you aren't allowed to pass). If the finishing margain is greater than the initial, then the front driver wins. If the margain is the same, then the rear driver wins. They swap who is in front each time to be fair.
