Read this thread if you ever feel like you want to sell your Evo: How to NOT do it!
We've all been there: love the car but wants something new, feeling bored of it - green might be greener on the other side, maybe you're tired of the boxy look and wants the coupe appeal, maybe you're interested in some more luxury features.
STOP RIGHT NOW
I'm hoping we can all talk about these issues/concerns/wants/needs before making a decision that could potentially be bad!
I personally have had my Evo for a year now and I've came close to switching her out for something else 3 times! Why? All three times was because I am a "coupe" sports car kind of guy and the Evo is a sedan. I'm still getting used to a sexy sedan as oppose to the coupes.
1st time - potentially trade in for Nismo 350z - I used to have a 350z and wants that coupe look back
2nd time - Lotus Elise - Exotic for a fraction of the cost
3rd time - 335i - luxury sports car
When it came down to it - I could not do it. Here's why:
Power: Great HP stock and with bolt-ons it'll pull on many cars 2, 3 times its price
Handling: Not even arguable to most cars in and above its price range
Comfort: Livable with roomy interior and decent storage space
Luxury: Only lacking feature but being an enthusiast the only luxury I need a Momo steering wheel, Recaro seats, and a manual transmission!
Looks: I'd have to say the Evo looks aggressive but a bit bland stock - lower + some wheels should do the trick. Not satisfied? Throw an SE lip on and you're set!
So there you have it. If you're THINKING about selling your Evo - post here first so we can talk you out of it before you make a huge mistake

Power: Great HP stock, very little if any turbo lag and plenty of stock torque and with bolt-ons it'll pull on many cars 2, 3 times its price
Handling: Not even arguable to most cars in and above its price range
Comfort: Finally above rental car quality with roomy interior and tons of storage space
Luxury: Not too bad anymore
Looks: Is all personal preference anyway

I changed all the things that apply to me in the new car and why I'm so satisfied with it, but most of them can carry into the X as well. Mitsu and Subaru have done a really good job making their hardcore racers into better street machines.
The reason I wanted out of the Evo is mostly because of the comfort of DD it. Partially also because I hated Mitsubishi for all the issues I had with it. I wanted something cushy and fast... I went too far and got the Porsche (looked at things like the 335 as well). It was too much for me and it got old very very fast. Now I'm in the compromise, as I'm sure many people who came from older models to the Xs feel.
If you want to sell your Evo, please do it, but make sure you're going to be fully satisfied with the new car. (or, if finance are the problem, good luck to you and definitely sell it if you have to)
my only qualms with the EVO compared to some other cars I had is the racerboy look with the wing, vented hood and front end and tails. I do love the looks of it though, just wonder what people think of me driving it at my age. lol (not like Im old, but you know what Im saying)
The rest I can pretty much deal with. I went from a 350z to this btw

I have to have a sedan. I just can't do coupes. So with that said I couldn't really find another sedan on the market that gave me the speed, power and versatility as the Evo. I tried the STi, but I personally did not care for the way STi's handle.
And unfortunately I didn't have much of a choice in the sake of my original Evo. Financed in my ex's name. Then we broke up...... good bye Evo.

I had a chance back in November for a straight across trade - no cash involve, I couldn't do it. That car is f-r-a-g-i-l-e...the whole outer shell is fiberglass and that freaked me out. If you hit something you'll have to replace the whole front "clamp" or the whole rear "clamp" No bumpers, nada.
Here's my thoughts on the matter...I have been wanting to sell the evo for quite some time and drove every sports car under 50k....I still have the evo
Here's the car's I consider and pro's/con's
Start out with the Nismo 350Z ~$32-34k leftover 2008:
Pro's:
Personally I love the lines of the car...parked next to my evo it made it look quite boring.
I felt the interior was marginally better...but still somewhat cheap.
Handling was very good...better than a stock evo...step below mine though.
Reliable motor and very few problems with the newer Z's
Con's:
Relatively slow
Aftermarket isn't that big for the HR yet
Not very good MPG
Not roomy
Next...2007/2008 335i ~$32-38k:
Pro's:
Interior was the best out of any car I drove
Quiet and rode nice
Power was very linear...better powerband than an evo by far
Aftermarket is already quite good
Looks are awesome on this car with a few body accents...think new E92 M3
Cons:
Mods are expensive
No LSD...costs almost $4k for one
Handling wasn't great
Steering was numb
Quite a few warranty issues known
2006 E46 M3 Competition Package ~$32-35k
Pro's:
I really like the looks of it
Interior was pretty nice...didn't really like the seats though
Pretty roomy and overall was built nicely
Handling was very good...tad better than a stock evo
Brakes were also very good, every bit as strong as the evo
Steering was the closest to the evo out of any car I have ever driven (I've driven ALOT of cars too)
Cons:
Although as fast as a stock evo it felt slower
Engine didn't have much torque
Didn't enjoy the exhaust noise/rasp
Mods are absurdly expensive...M3 tax as they say
Insurance is actually more than the evo (Only car that was I priced out)
2008 Chevrolet C6 Z51 ~$35k-38k
Pro's:
Power all over...I mean it was FAST...highway it just pulled...made my 360whp feel slow
Handling...with Z51 they pull .99g and I didn't want to push a brand new 09 to the limits but I pushed it and it handled nicely
First stability control I have drove in a car that actually worked nicely
I thought the interior was actually quite nice and the trunk was roomy
Gas mileage was also good...about 20mpg around town and 27-28 on highway
Insurance dropped over $40 a month compared to my evo.
Looks destroy the evo in my opinion...I mean putting 305's out the back looks nasty.
Con's:
It's a chevy...sorry not really an american car enthusiast
The old man persona you get with the car
Quite easy to get sideways without TC on
Not all that practical...mostly a $40k weekend car
With all that said I almost bought an 08 corvette. I drove every one of those cars multiple times in various different places. I was looking for something more refined but could give me the performance of the evo. The vette fulfilled all of it. If my evo would sell I might have bought one. With that said I'm not going to take the time to take probably $7-8k worth of mods off my car to have some kid low ball me. So I suppose with this market its best just to keep my econo box. Its fast, practical, has the best steering feel out of any car I have ever driven, and can take friends/family out on a whim.
I think you made a good choice Alvin. Your car is one of the nicest on Evom and it would be pointless to try to get what your car is actually worth. Mine has basically become a weekend car only and so I enjoy it more when I get to drive it. I figured it would be nicer to get a comfortable daily driver and enjoy the rawness when I feel the need too. Wow...that turned into a long post...this is my contribution for the day

I agree with you man, I wanted to sale my car couple of times, and I ended up test driving so many other cars including 50K BMWs lol to be honest I came up to the conclusion that making a little change in the car will keep you satisfied so thats why everytime I start thinking about changing my car I end up buying a little tiny thing for my car and then I say to myself what a sexy car I got LOOOOOOOOL.
Great topic man I have put a lot of thought into this. My brother got an e46 the same time I got my IX. Sure there are a few reasons I think it might have been better to get an M3 ( interior, looks, "OMG M3!" factor) but everytime I compare who is happier with there car I always win. He gets bored with his car and doesn't have the big $$ to throw at it while I change up my look and performance all the time just throwing a little bit of $ at it. I would go crazy if I had the same stock car for a long period of time.

But hey, after driving both for a decent amount of time I'd say if you don't have the mod bug (probably none of you), and you want too keep your next car stock, definately look into an e46.
