Help: Water spots on Valve Cover

Hey Guys,

Just had a quick question. I have an VIII and when I clean my engine bay I always get annoyed because my valve cover is covered in dry water spots that I can't ever figure out how to get off.

I have tried numerous different cleaners and polishes and nothing even looks like it's working.

Does anyone have any suggestions at all? I really want the valve cover to look new again. I know this sounds lame, I am just very meticulous.

If you tried all kind of cleaner and can't get it off and it's annoying you, repaint it

dont use those..., its an exterior paint just like the outside of your car(would you put just anything on your cars paint?)...do a quick search on how to get hardwater stains out of your cars paint in the detailing section, should get some responses, worst case scenario try a clay bar or some wetsanding with like a 3000grit

I had hard water (or rust) marks on my polished plug cover that would not come off. I took some metal polishing compound and kabam, gone. You might want to try some exterior paint polish or whatever buffer you would use before waxing a car.

First thing, is the louvered part of your hood still in place? I'm not being a smartass, but you know there is someone out there who has taken this off and honestly wonders why their engine bay is nasty.

Try the clay bar thing. It might not be in the same areas as yours but I use to get water spots on the trunk from the garage door opening/closing after a storm. Once dried, it's a pain to remove it...but the clay seems to work for me. So good luck.

+1 for Griots products

Steps
1. Clean
2. Claybar
3. Machine Polish #2
4. Wax

This is method you would use for all painted surfaces.
