Useful link, most of Lan Evo's post cover anything relevant.
If mitsu were not ever going to bring over the Evo, then go ahead and buy an import, that would be worth it
But Mitsu is bringing over the Evo8 in less than 6 mths for less than 30k, so just hold on a while, save more money and getting a better Evolution.
Warranty is very important for all the reasons that GPTourer has stated. If your imported car is a lemon, you are kind of screwed. If you live in another state, the imported car warranty is pretty useless...
Warranty covers all the little stuff too like door rattles, music skipping, turn signals not working etc. . . on an imported car, you pay out of your own pocket. I dont think that the importing company will pay for you to fix it, will they?
Once the Evo8 gets here, the Evo7s ahem 37k value will be dropped right away to less than 30k. . .
Until the Evo7 is listed on NHTSA's website, like the Skyline GTR, it isnt street legal. Knowing customs and all the bureaucratic redtape, dont expect it anytime soon, if it even succeeds.

They didn't get their rides just yet. They've come to the US, yes, but they are being converted at the AMG shop in Santa Ana. I was there today. I talked to the two dudes who bought the first two Evo imports. One red, one blue. Pretty sweet car...I will post pictures soon

Saying the Evo 8 will be better is an assumption. Let's not forget that manufacturers tend to make the cars heavier and that in Japan, power is limited to 280bhp...
I agree with KK that the warranty is in many cases not worth the paper it's written on, at least from my experience in Europe. A good auto electrician will fix your A/C or wirings better and faster than a newly appointed teenage mechanic. And given the extreme reliability of a Lancer Evolution, there isnt much to worry about!
I bought a TME without a warranty and NOTHING was ever wrong with it, really, nothing. That's a year ago now, and if something does go wrong, it wouldnt be covered by the warranty anyway.
I believe replacing parts like clutches, brake components, engine internals even etc with better uprated ones is a better warranty than a manufacturer's warranty.

Claudius, you do understand that replacing any part of a car requires money, right? Not everyone is as well off as you.
The Evo will cost $30k after taxes and as you know, Evo parts arent cheap either. Warranty will fix a faulty engine or broken aircon without charge. If someone has to pay for all those fixes, it will add up really quickly and not everyone cant afford it.
Your Evo is in good condition but i wouldnt say that all Evos are made this way. Just check lancerregister.com for Evos that went wrong for no reason. Without a warranty and getting a bad Evo is not too good financially.

if you want to get an evo, make sure that the price you pay for it 30K, 36k, 28k, or whatever isn't stretching you to the limit. These things are expensive to drive and maintain. Gas mileage is terrible (14-15mpg) and they eat brake pads, discs and clutches like you cannot believe (these are not covered by warranty). Also, you got to factor in an oil change every 4-5kmiles. then there is insurance...
actually, you guys in the US are getting a pretty good price for your evos, you won't believe what I paid for mine (used)

It is funny how everybody is so hung up on modding thier cars, is no body here going to leave one of the greatest cars onthe planet untouched? Its not like this car is a comprimise when it comes to performance,
bread this car for one reason and one reason only, and that is to win rallys.

Why leave good enough alone? There's a lot to be said for throwing complacency aside and having some fun.
I'd be willing to bet most people found this forum because they were either interested in tuning their current/future Lancers (Evolution or otherwise). It seems like if people wanted to leave their cars alone they wouldn't have too much interest in a site like this that's geared towards tuning in whatever forum. If it ain't broke, fix it till it is.

I do understand that cars, parts and service cost money, believe me! However, it is unfair to say "not everyone is as well off as you" since you do not know my financial situation and as it is none of your business.
I could say the same about you (after all you bought a car for 36,000 or something and talk about buying suspension fro several thousand USD), so let's not even start that debate.
An Evo that costs 30,000 USD will require that you have at least 40,000 to fit decent suspension exhaust and ECU, service and maintenance and insurance. Not everybody has or can obtain a credit for that amount of money and unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about that.
Most of the problems people on the lancerregister have are due to poor knowledge of their dealers and bad tuning, very rarely to manufacturing problems. They get bolts not tightened correctly, too lean or too rich running ECUs etc etc. In the USA, there are a lot more specialized companies who can build engines and modify turbos and who know what they're doing!
