After the short drive in my Evo. A lot of once exciting cars seem pretty boring to me now. I think the JDM Evo is the definitive thrill machine.

Funny thing is that I've collected every Evo reference in any language that I can find. Many of the reviews mentioned that first time passengers jump for the door handles the first time feel the low end boost punch. I rode in Karls before Karl and I took mine out. Even preparred as I was for the punch sitting in the backseat, I had to grab the door handle. They need a recaro option for the back seat too.

Yeah it would be intimidating to see bucket seats with full harnesses in the back too.

In fact, the Evo is a compromise. It is limited to 280 bhp because of Japanese agreements between manufacturers, has a catalyc converter to meet emissions and noise regulations etc etc.

If you do not want to tune it, you dont have to Take it to your dealer for oil service and fill gas in.
I thought that limit is only on the manufacturer's claimed hp??
But in reality these cars are making alot more than 280hp?

(much like the old supra tt, skyline gtr...etc??)

Technically YES but they have hyper restrictive exhausts and intakes to keep them within the governmental limits. Simple swaps yield massive power since the cars are able to breathe so much easier.

simple swap of exhaust and intake will not yield "assive amounts of power" 20 bhp max

Damn, embellish a little and they jump all over you. What I was trying to get across was that the exotic Japense sports cars gain pretty good numbers over an USDM cars due to the tighter emissions laws in Japan. The cars come bottlenecked from the factory but due to the turbocharged nature of most of the cars that we would be talking about, the ability to gain good numbers, since breathing mods will do wonders for TC'd cars rather than a bitsy NA 4 cylinder like oh...say...the USDM Lancer has.

For those who purchased an imported EVO

Did you finance the car?
Would the bank or finance company (peoplefirst.com?) treat
dealer like EI like an regular car dealer?

Just wondering...

You will probably find that this varies somewhat state to state, due to differences in how liens and titles are done. Since EI is a legitimate registered business selling a unique import, I imagine a bank would finance the full "value" of the car (in other words, whatever EI is asking), provided your credit is in good shape. You may have to go down the route of it being a collector car, since any attempts at a new car loan will probably yield "Lancers only sell for $18k, why is this one 36.5k?".

Easiest way might be to print out some info about EI (location, phone #, etc) and take it to your bank and ask.

You will find not many banks will finance the car to buy from Evolution Imports. The reason is that the money (as of right now) is paid directly to the exporter in the UK.
The other reason is that Evolution Imports is not a franchised dealer (Mitsubishi, Ford, etc.)

PeoplesFirst.com will not give you the money for an imported EVO. You may be approved for the loan, but when they find out its Grey Marktet, they will say "no way".

If you find out otherwise let me know, but in general you will have to find someone you have a very good relationship with to finance it as a car loan. If you can use something else as collateral though (like a house) you are all set.

I would check back with Adam he is trying to work out some understanding with a lender. I tried peoplefirst and even had the check. I explained the whole situation to them before I signed up for a loan too. But I could not use them. I went with a equity loan.

This is what they told me over email....

As long as the check is made to a licensed dealership in the United States. This purchase will be considered a new dealer purchase if the vehicle has never been titled.

Sincerely,

PeopleFirst.com
though I do not think they understand what is involved.

Adam told me that 90% of the buyer financed the car...
how they do that?
