May have been played on car purchase.
The guy you bought it from had a 1200HP Supra in his garage and you think all he did to the Evo was slap some crappy BOV on and some knock-off TBE? Would have been a red flag for me right there.
Hope everything works out for you, do yourself a favor and ditch that BOV and get a IX DV.

Well of course wait until the car is in order and ready. But kill that ricer in you now, you will thank me later.
And the 1200HP Supra is his wife's but he drives a little sedan that is basically stock? Come on now
I'd go out on a limb to say that both cars are his, he modded the Evo quite a bit, left that crappy BOV and exhaust on and parted the rest out to make it seem close to stock.

I would hope that someone that could squeeze that much hp out of a Supra would do a good build on his Evo as well which should be reassuring. Definitely continue with getting everything checked out and make sure that you fix any problems that may arise. You are going to want to resolve any and all issues with the car before you start adding power.
, as I just bought my Evo and it looked good inside out. I ended up trusting the seller like you because I had records of all repairs, even had a repair bill from the dealer on a intercooler hose blowing off. I guess I got lucky and hopefully the car is fine. It is horrible to hear about the stuff you find after you purchase it.
I'm located in Emporia, Kansas. The original owner bought it and own it in KC and drove it for about a year and a half. I bought it from the second owner from a guy in Springfield, Missouri.
Ironic Update:
I got a hold of both previous owners finally. The BOV and TBE was all done by the first owner (however the second owner removed the cat and talked as if he put in the TBE, so this may be a second one).
The damage on the quarter happened from the first owner when his son parked the car on a hill after an ice storm. It slid down the hill and hit a mailbox. The second owner played dumb on its existence. The first owner didn't know a whole lot about cars. It seemed it was his 15/16 year old son that was pushing him to get upgrades. Once he turned 16, the owner sold it to keep him alive. His son also burnt out the clutch trying to spin the tires at 8000 miles that had to be replaced.
Only thing not left explained is the hold in the cubby under the cd player. Overall I got a lot of info and I feel better about the car. After the check up today I will be worry free for a bit. Then the mod bug will full set in

Your comment about a straight pipe......you say you knew that it had a TBE.....but complained about no cat. A TBE is a Turbo Back Exhaust....to my knowledge there is no TBE avail that has a cat built into it.....reason being that most times TBE's are for "off-road-use only" aka Racing....so a cat wouldn't be needed. Sounds like they didn't lie so much as didn't divulge the whole truth....and anything visually wrong with the car is youtr fault....its not like he switch cars on you....
And I'm bashing you...I made a purchaseo nan EVO 2 months ago with a supposed "simple Fuel Pump issue" 2 months later still haven't driven my car so i feel your pain.

I had my Evo sold three times. One time the gentleman got approval for the loan from his bank.
I pulled out of all three sales due to the fact that my car was not 100%.
This is not the first time I have seen an Evo owner unload their problems on someone else.

I purchased my evo used from a dealer. WHen I went to go look at it, they hadnt washed it yet so I couldnt see some of the scratches the car had. Mine was an ssl, and researched as much as I could, but I had other cars I was considering too. So I was researching various cars to make sure I could tell if it was a good deal.. short story-- I bought my ssl and didnt have the subwoofer in the trunk, most likely removed by previous owner.. I knew the ssl had the sound upgrade, and when I heard the system, even without the sub, I thought it sounded good, even the bass was decent ( I am not into that rattling bass anyways). Not a big deal, I would have prboably removed it to put in a rear shock tower bar or battery relocation anyhow. Point is, its hard to REALLY check everything out all the time. I feel your pain, but in the end when you work whatever bugs out it will be all good.

. Visually the car looked great. It's hard to spot on the outside that the car had been fixed (even worse the day I bought it because the car had a slight coat of dust). The only way I was really able to find out was either feeling from the jack space or removing the interior paneling in the trunk (Still, I should have check it when I was down there). Thing is that the second owner had adjustable struts and the only way to get to them was to remove the panel, so I have no idea how it would just overlook it for a year and a half. From what I found, the car has been road raced a bit and is not the DD as he described. The wheel well shroud on the passenger side has been cut open to provide more air to the tranny radiator and the front brakes are warped. He added the struts to stiffen the car a bit. I'm guessing a gauge pod was in the car and the boost turned up possibly.
Also he left a couple of pictures of him at an annual road race on his photobucket that kind of gives him away
.In the end, it doesn't really matter. I had the car checked out up and down and everything is good. Even with what I found, I feel the car is still a good find. I just wish the seller would have been more honest with me about the car. I guess I will take this as a lesson learned sort of thing and make sure I fully check things out from now on. Thanks all for listening to my rant
.Now it's time to mod and release the beast out of this thing
.

Glad it turned out ok for you. I'm still chasing electrical issues. I got pissed off and was up until 3am this morning putting mr MR rear and Front seats in, Rota's and adjusting my coilovers. Sad thing is I pushed it out of the garage last night and can't get the biotch back in....a friend is coming to help me tonight tomorrow and Sunday if needed so I'll push it back in to the garage and hopefully will sort out my electrical issues.
