Unfortuynately I think more people are dishonest than honest when trying ot sell cars. When I try and sell I think I am honest to a fault where I'll tell someone every little thing about the car... I want to be as clear as possible so no one can come back and say "well what about this?"

Good luck with the car!

I just got my 06 IX from a dealership and I noticed before I purchased it that it had a full TBE. I mentioned to the salesmen that the car didn't have a cat and he just looked at me funny. I think they could get screwed if I said something....

I just got my 05 from a dealership. Claimed they didn't know what had been modified. Nobody at the dealership knew anything about Evos in general. Told me it had a "different muffler". LOL. More like downpipe and cat back, at a minimum.

I took it to my shop after the SES light came on while driving home from the dealership "What a surprise!". This isn't my first modded car so I didn't worry about it, but I wanted to get it up and see what had been done. A few cranks of the wrench later we discover the cat had been completely hollowed out! Also, car won't hold more than 12 psi of boost and has an AF of 9.

I called the dealership about the cat. They handled it with no problem, ordered it, and I'm having it put on today. After that straight to my tuner to see about this 12 psi and to get rid of that 100% atmospheric BOV (anyone want to buy a Blitz BOV?).

Will post results later, after all of my appointments today. HOPEFULLY I am not screwed. This car looks sick as hell. I call it the "Black Evo of Death".

Also noticed the hole for the gauges.

We'll see! Wish me luck!

Bought my car from a private owner.
This guy was a total moron. He was on a mission to save weight at any cost. I found missing screws, etc. While getting gas on the 5 hour trip home, I noticed that the SRS light didnt pop on to self test itself. Hmm, thats because the pass air bag wasnt in the vehicle and the bulb was taken outta the cluster. WOW. Although I am a technician, and fixing things are second nature, I agree that sellers should be more honest.

Damn ,son if i am driving my happy *** a 10 hour round trip for a car, you better believe the level of intamicy between myself and the car will be nearly sexual in nature. I'm bring my own jack stand and my coveralls. Hopefully you can get your dinero back and when you deliver the car back, give the guy who sold it to you a good smack in the face!!!!

After 2 weeks found out that my problem wasnt fuel but a bad immobilizer code....disabled it and the car starts up. Been searching for a MAF for the last 2 days...hopefully found one locally.

its so critical to look at every area on a used car your buying. This is your fault sir, you should have loooked over the car.

and im assuming it was a dealer since you use the term "they said" ??

well dealers lie there asses off to sell a performance car!, if it has a TBE then 95% of the time the boost has been turned up.....its very hard to buy a used car, esspecially and evo in good shape anymore.

start with draining all the fluids including the tranny, tc and rear diff. as for the test pipe that may be a plus if you will upgrade later down the road. as for the hole under the cubby the previous owner probably got a wideband sensor which in most cases is a good thing since the owner is probably monitoring the engine's afr. for the bald tires that is normal for an evo because of the camber. you could get it aligned and set the toe to 0/0 that should help with the wear.

Sorry to hear about this. My friend and I went looking for a 3000GT VR4 a month ago and we found one nearby and got the carfax for it. It had a rebuilt title because of an accident that happened only one year after it was made so the damage had to have been bad. When we looked at it, I immediately noticed the left side headlight and fog light appeared newer than the right. During the test drive 3rd gear was grinding badly and the salesman just said we could get used to rev-matching to get it into 3rd and that it wasn't a major issue. When we mentioned the accident and the rebuilt title, he said he knew nothing about it and that it could mean anything, even a minor repair. Car salesman just want to sell their cars and are willing to do anything to get them off the lot, even if it means lying or leaving out important details.

I have the car set for an appointment tomorrow to get it aligned and roters flipped (hopefully get the shimmy out of the brakes). The test pipe will stay. I had planned on putting in a high-flow cat anyways, so this is just one-notch up. Everything has been mechanically checked over, but I will most likely go ahead and drain all fluids to be safe and replace the tires.

I will start upgrading the car next month. I have a walboro 255 fuel pump, 3inch downpipe (not sure what brand I'm going to go with yet), LICP (again, still researching brands), KN filter, a new BOV or JDM DV,and Hallman MBC planned. I will attempt to get gauges back in (wideband scares me a bit, but the walk though makes me feel better). I have a company in KC that will tune the vehicle.

After this is said and done, I will most likely start evaluating the clutch afterwards.

how can you buy a car, then take it somwhere to see if there is anything mechanincally wrong with it. i mean are you really that car retarded?

anyway, dont blame whoever sold you the car. of course they arent gonna tell you all the mods that were on it cause it would scare you off. just mod the car and dont worry about its past... if it blows up, build it. i mean what are you gonna do take it back to him when it dies and say give me my money back?
