So after some reserch i see that there is a problem in manny evos with the heater knob breaking, my evo is no different, i bought the car with the broken knob.
I looked at the TSB, it looks very complicated! i can buy the part in the pic for $140 would this help the problem at all? also ive looked on google but i cant find the parts kit ive heard about for this problem, any help?

after looking at this carefully the problem isn't the "knob" follow the cable that it pulls down the box pretty much above where the pedels are, the problem is there. I tried greesing, no luck, I'm just learning to live with it I hardly ever change the settings anyways

I find it hard to believe there are still cars around with this problem. My heat control knob would barely move when the car was new.

If the shaft for the knob is broken then you need the assembly that is behind the bezel in the picture. That will cost you. However, the real problem is the two levers on the side of the heater box above the gas pedal. They are a bad design and replacement levers are available at $15 or less.

So, for anyone who hasn't broken the knob yet, get the levers replaced!

 

There is a little clip that snaps in the actual hvac control behind the part you have pictured. The constant tugging will sometimes pull it out of the plastic retainer. I have found that if you push it back in a number of times it will get worse. Just drop a bit of super glue on it and push it back in. That is, if it is even the problem.

Have this same problem. Something inside the air box is causing the flow control door to stick or something. My cable actually bent because of it. Pretty ****ty the JDM evo's have electronic HVAC controls.... Now when i want to change the temp i gotta reach my hand up into the dash and move it by hand. Luckily it doesnt get to cold in Socal

 

where do you get them?? And is it hard to replace??

I was in the process of pulling the heater box when I noticed that the levers depicted in the TSB didn't match the ones that the maker installed on my car. So, off to the dealership I went and asked for the replacement levers. The counter guy knew what I wanted and had them on hand. These same screwed parts also went into other vehicles so they were busy replacing them.

I already had the replacement blend door. Still have it in the box. Replacing the levers did the trick.

Since I thought I had to pull the heater box I already had pulled the cables off of the heater box. This is the tricky part of the job and probably something I didn't need to do if just replacing the levers. Each lever is held on by one screw.

Look above the gas pedal while move the heat control knob. You will see the the white levers moving (or if stuck, not moving).

 

is the problem with all years models? 2003 to 2006 or only the first years?

 

I don't have the TSB in front of me but I think it was 2003 & 04.
