Ouch! Could have been worse though. Had a car leave a shop I used to work out (lowered Honda) that was in the same situation except it sheared his oil pan bolt off and subsequently fragged the motor.

Go take pictures of the manhole and file a claim with the city. Put a ruler next to it so the height can be seen.

Yeah it definitely could have been a lot worse. When I was in high school a girl I knew got her muffler taken off by a speed bump and the city paid to replace it. You might look into an option like that.

Wow, that is some carnage. Could have been worse. I bet from now on you'll be avoiding manholes, even when they are flush with the road surface.

That happen to me in my accord 8 years ago. I hit a raise manhole cover in a new housing development. It hit the oil pan and sheared it off. There were no road construction signs or cones, or any paint markings on the road. I went to the police station, filed a police accident report, and took pictures with the officer there at the scene. Long story short, $1800 in damage, town sent me a check for $2200.

The damage is kind of bad, but to me the rust is even worse! Your car is an '06? This is the main reason why I love having a beater car!

Yes, contact the appropriate people to get reimbursed. Be prepared for a long battle though.

Good luck!

You're damn lucky. My city doesn't pay out jack. Their pothole law is a screw. If one ****ed up your car, but on one reported it at least 24 hours ago, then they won't pay. I hear on the news all the time of how they were too busy to fix something in 24 hours and it was out of their control so they refuse valid claims all the time.

I have a 30K mile stock crossbar off my Evo 9 sitting in my garage on the shelf. If you want it, I'll ship it. Just send me a PM what its worth to you.

I totaled my car so have no use for it as the car had the Buschur one on it when wrecked.
