From everything I've heard, the Evo tranny is pretty much bulletproof...the weak link is supposedly the clutch. Some have had problems with the clutch, but others have not...so far, mine has been fine.

 

id like to know more about the how strong the tranny really is, i know on the WRX the tranny is like glass..furthermore, id expect the sti tranny to be bulletproof, but can we really say the same for the evo, is there any1 here making a enough power to actually damage the tranny?

 

The clutch will bite those that push the car hard on a regular basis. Tranny should be rock solid, and the rust issue now that is something that needs to be looked into, especially if other parts of the car were not coated properly.

 

So what is the weakness in the clutch? Can you get an aftermarket clutch which will fix the problem or is this a reoccuring build issue?

What is the history of the evo tranny? Is it an old part (like the wrx tranny) say from the eclipse or is it new? If it was inherited from the eclipse then there should be pleanty of evidence as to how strong it is.

Has DSM addressed this issue? Seems scary and a major one if evos are starting to rust after a couple of months.
