Ok, so here's a question

I drive my car like its ment to be, i try to take care of it, only 3k miles on it so far and 2 oilchanges (one at 80miles and 1 at 1500 miles along with a tranz fluid change)

anyway here's my question,

i know how bad it is to drop the clutch on an AWD car. but babying just smokes the **** outta it (which ive done about 6 times, not actualy 'seen' smoke, but it just smelled bad)

I'm wondering if i do a hard drop from about a 5mph roll and the tires dont kick loose, is that really as bad as from a stop? seems like the shock to the system would be a lot less (in my head anyway) of course its better when i break the tires lose because then its the tires that are getting abused and not the drive train / center diff

anyway, i want ta get a feel for how hard i can drive and not totaly abuse the drive train (dont care to much about the clutch, its replaceable..) and im only driving like this maybe once a week, the rest of the time its to and from work

anyway, thanks for any input..

(*totaly stock for now, waiting till summer to do mods*)

mitsu is know for good trannies. you shouldn't be worried so much about the transmission unless you plan to get a better clutch. if im not wrong, i think the clutch is made to be the weak point of the whole transmission system..

so dropping the clutch is fine?

a guy in a red evo up here broke his center diff (im guessing from launching all the time)

I dont want to break anything from dropping the clutch, i try to do it from at least a 5mph roll (if that helps or not i dunno)

I really like dropping it while im goin about 15 around corners and kicking at least the rear, sometimes all 4 tires loose

I do (or did, when the weather was good) a lot of AUTOX

I hammered my friends Evo quite a few times, spinning all 4(too fun for words.) To make a long post short; His clutch is pure ****, I would not go too hard until you can replace that clutch. The tranny is solid, so unless you dump the clutch from a stop at every light you come too(Obviously not recommended), it will hold up to quite a bit of abuse.

Up to you though. The clutch is afterall covered under warrenty, its just the headache of having to get the car serviced, thus decreasing your fun factor.

I was under the impression that the clutch is a "wear and tear" item.

Nope they wont cover a clutch, only way they will cover it is if it was a defect from install , like botls not tourqued down properly or missaligned packs. If it is glazed worn or anything like that they wil not cover you.

I dunno if this is the equivilant of dumping the clutch, but I do slip it pretty fast and then my tires spin for like half a second, I grip and I'm off. I usually dont get clutch smell when im doing it liek this, but what usually happens is im probably going ~5mph when my car engages from a dead stop.
