EVO IX MR 136k miles, tried to take me out...

anyone ever have this happen? i was driving, and got on it in 1st gear, and the throttle got stuck wide open. didn't realize it until i shifted to 2nd and the car just kept going even after i let off. i pushed in the clutch and the RPM's immediately shot to the rev limiter. when i saw that, i turned the car off. while still rolling, i started the car back and it immediately went back to the rev limiter. i cut it off again and kicked the throttle a couple times to unstick it. then i started it back up and the car ran fine.

i tried to get it to repeat the sticking again, but flooring it in neutral in a parking lot. never could get it to do it again. car's run fine since. might just need some WD40 somewhere? dunno. i'll take a look at it later and see if there's anything out of whack.

just wondering if anyone has ever had this happen?

Haven't had it happen, but that's pretty scary. I'd definitely hit your TB with the proper silicone-based lubricant if I were you.

Your car is possesed, sell it to me!

Yes this has happened to me, my throttle cable some how dislodge itself from the holder on the valve cover and snagged on something. Very scary stuff man, but its a quick jig of the cable and your good.

something like this happened to my friend in his 2nd gen talon.. has a ford throttle body that got stuck.. he turned the car off but the car kept going because of the turbo timer.. which was hidden, so he had to ride it out for 30 seconds through 2 red lights.. he got very lucky.

he could have just pushed in the clutch. might have blown the motor, but that's safer than running redlights. also, the turbo timer shouldn't have been able to activate without the ebrake being pulled so that car wasn't wired right to begin with.

My GTi has done it a handful of times (B4 I fixed the t-cable), but the brake over comes the engine and I keep it in gear to hold the load.

I would make sure nothing is snagging on the cable and definately do a good throttle body serivce on it.

If you over tighten the clamp joining the upper ic pipe to the throttle body it can distort the throttle body enough to get the valve to stick in some spots. Its happened to me on Evo 8/9's especially when using a T bolt clamp.

had that happen to me in my 04 ralliart, the throttle cable frayed and got kinked, so my gas pedal got stuck to the floor...lucky for me i was in a parking lot and not going down the freeway or anything...i dropped it to neutral and the rpms shot straight up, even broke the welds on my exhaust hanger haha... ive actually had happened twice but the second time was when i had wrecked my RA, it crushed the throttle cable and i almost went straight into another car...
