weird rev limit thing with my 03
IDK if I have something wrong or if its stock but my car wont hit rev limiter when my car is stopped or anytime in first gear either it just keeps going! If im parked with the car running and try to rev it, it just hits 6 grand with the clutch in or out. The rev limit is set to 7800rpms where sean ivey set it with my tune is what it says on my dyno sheet and when sean told me. It also did the same thing before the tune also. My friends 06 evo bounces rev limiter all the time on launches and everything and I wish I could but im scared to go to high in 1st because I see the rpms go to almost 9 a few times when I wasnt quick enough to shift with the wheel spin. anyone have this happen with their car to?
1. gear selection has nothing to do with rev limit. , Clutch in, clutch out or VSS (car rolling/not rolling) does.
2. does your car's stationary rev limit work? e brake pulled, clutch in, slowly rev the motor to where the limit should be.
3. test the rolling rev limiter in any gear but first. don't give it full throttle, just enough to get up to the rev limit in a controlled manner.

Really strange ! The two step in my EVO 8 works as long as the car is not moving, clutch in, clutch out, in gear, out of gear doesn't matter. An EVO 9 will only work in 1st gear, clutch in.
But this car will rev past the 7800rpm limit only in 1st. IDK Unless Ivey's rev limit can be adjusted for each gear. Do you have any aftermarket ignition products installed?
