Considering the brembo brakes, the suspension, and the all wheel drive system. I would think the evo would be safer to drive.

Looks a lot like the car went into a pole. No dirt up the side, so I doubt it was a tree.

I realize because of the handling ability that it makes the car safer in avoiding accidents... however, you can't always help when someone isn't paying attention or maybe you the driver aren't and get hit in the drivers door.

To all who have been discussing this, i'm not personally going bad to an VIII or IX. If it was just me in the car, I wouldn't have gotten the X, not because I don't like it, but just because I had the RS paid down a lot more, but I have a wife that I am much more concerned with, so I wanted something that was safer for her benefit, and yeah the X to me is a nicer car. I feel good about what I did, I got 0% and am ultimately paying less that I did for my old RS which is cool too. I know my X is MUCH safer than the previous Evo's... but it always depends as someone said already, what you hit, or hit you and how.

My question was simply if the Evo's doors were built better and when I did a search someone mentioned there was more spot welds or something, but I wasn't sure if this was true and thought out of curiosity I would start a thread and ask.

If you want to be safer in a collision put in more metal. Now you have a car that is safer in a collision but more likely to be in a collision because it is less nimble.

I"ve been run off the interstate twice by other vehicles changing lanes into me, once by a semi and once by a sedan. It was just an 80 mph drive in the grass. My friend at work had this happen to him the other day driving a regular sedan and he ended up upside down in the opposite lanes.

So, more metal or more handling, you give up one to get the other.

You also don't have a helmet on. So the upper bars are dangerous too for head impacts.
You should post that in the Utah Evos thread too... None of them believe me... They all claim it is much safer to drive around with a cage on the streets (sans helmet). Sigh...

Agreed completely, but like you said too, it doesn't prevent against all the idiots. First accident I got into after my youthful "I'm an idiot" days was when I was stopped at a light in the Porsche, dude backed out of his business's driveway in his F350 truck right into the side of my car. Battering rammed my door with his tow ball... Nothing I could do there but honk and pray.

+1, Deer season has started (muzzle loader) so the deer have gone very active at night. Being able to stop on a dime while still easily controlling steering has already helped me miss a big buck some hunter would have liked to spot.

I have always been an advocate of accident avoidance. The Evo gets high marks in that category.

pretty sure the side impact beams would be the same... Main thing is to always be paying attention... insurance rates on an evo are typically more because of theft and because of the amount of people that wreck them doesnt mean the safety rating is crappy. Could be related to inexperienced drivers

I don't think an evo is any safer, at least not the 8 or 9. Aren't there the same number of airbags in the same places? And the frame is the same isn't it? But it is more fun to drive hah.

This is what happened to my previous car. Going 55 and a deer runs out from blind side of overpass. I obviously wasn't checking past the divisor for a deer before going under the overpass and manage it hit it at 35 and totaled my car since the airbags deployed.

As for being safe...if you drive like a ****ing idiot, then you're not safe. I speed sometimes but some of the stories I here on here about going 130+ on the street is just stupid. Of course there's always idiots on cell phones who will come out of no where.

I agree, but I was thinking overall safety of Mitsubishi Lancer and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Like I said I think the Evo would be overall safer.

Check this out (this is what happened to my first Evo). You decide if it's "safer" than the typical garbage lancer.

You have been warned.

I think maybe he was saying warned as in some of the pics were a bit graphic.

That said, people on here have walked away from some pretty ridiculous crashes. I'm going to invest in a proper seat eventually because the thing that worries me most in crash pics is how easily the stock Recaros seem to twist like a paperclip.
your not kidding about the recaros either my drivers side is so close to the b piller from a from end impact one more thing on my list to replace

I guess it all depends on how and where and how much you drive your evo. It has to be much safer then a standard lancer cause of the breaks and awd but kinda all depends on if your a ******* driver.
