Is the Evo safer than just the standard Lancer?
I was talking with a friend the other day about Evo's and I had told him I decided one of my reasons for selling my RS and getting an X was because of safety. I love the X and wouldn't replace it for anything, but I got to looking online and i've never been able to find an actual crash test for the Evo, only for the Lancer... so I looked on here and a few people had said something about it having better welds or something that supposedly make it more sturdy.
So my question is just as the title says...
and the other is, has anyone done anything to improve their VIII's or IX's for on the street and on the track?

clearly you're happy with your decision to sell your evo for a X. why try to justify it with safety as a reason?
what do you think you could to do to improve the safety of a ct9a... add side airbags.. Mercedes pre-crash system? how about wrap it in bubble wrap.

I have no data to back this up, but a quick observation of cost to repair.
With the Evo its not like the safety of the people inside that is an issue its the fact that the outer damage is impacted more in the cost department.
The chasis is stiffer on the evo, but if I'm not mistaken that mostly affects the handling department.

yeah, stuff like that is what I was asking... I started the thread just because I was curious if anyone had done anything to their car as far as street safety. I don't think many people put roll cages and 5 point harnesses in their DD though lol.

Good morning all.
Cage is not always safer on the street. Those driver area bars and a t-bone accident will still hit the driver, which could break bones.
You also don't have a helmet on. So the upper bars are dangerous too for head impacts.

The ONLY thing I don't love about my Evo is every time I see what happens to one in a side impact. That's the only reason I'd consider trading for a X.
That said, people on here have walked away from some pretty ridiculous crashes. I'm going to invest in a proper seat eventually because the thing that worries me most in crash pics is how easily the stock Recaros seem to twist like a paperclip.

Wondering if the normal Evo is saver than your average lancer?
Check this out (this is what happened to my first Evo). You decide if it's "safer" than the typical garbage lancer.

You have been warned.

You could argue that with it's superior brakes, nimble AWD handling, along with power on demand when needed the evo is far better equipped to avoid accidents than most other cars on the road. It's a completely valid point. I'm sure there's numerous members who've avoided sure death on the road and can credit the amazing handling of the evo for saving them. =) Of course that does nothing for getting blindsided by some idiot.

Almost collided into the back of a 3rd gen Eclipse going about 55mph. The stiff suspension and agile steering prevented that from happening.
