Evo Trailer Hitch
Evo Trailer Hitch
Going to be making the trek from Orlando FL to Denver CO and going to be towing a small trailer with da evo :P. Anyone have a trailer hitch on theirs out there or towed anything with the evo? Any odd behavior etc? Thanks!

Arn't trucks AWD? I have a jet boat that we pull with my g/f's GTI. I was going to pull it with the evo but couldn't find a hitch for it.

The only reason the STi can is due to the adjustable diff.

what balance?Realistically you should be able to tow maybe 200 lbs. Just make sure there isn't much tongue weight. It's the subframe I'd be worried about twisting. Just don't over do it and you should be OK.
And guys you need to explain what AWD and the non adjustable diff have to do with towing? I don't understand the logic. It's just extra weight

evo uses viscus clutchs to route power, adding a trailer will destroy them, it places too much load on the rear of the car and this in turn generates more force on the power routed to the rear, your not driving a truck, your driving a rally "inspired" car. When you see rally cars towing then you may tow too

And assuming a well balanced trailer is attached, meaing that only the weight of the hitch and arm is applying down force and all other forces would be lateral. Therefore equivalent to having 200 lbs in the trunk, back seat or front. Not making any difference at all. You guys with me on this?

The WRX STi is able to two... poster mentioned that he uses his girlfriends GTi. The STi can tow upto 2000 lbs. I would think you would be able to do this but I would not want to do it. As far as trucks, most are not all wheel drive, 4wd yes but there is a key factor, most trucks you can't take over ~50 mph with 4wd on or you'll render your front differential useless.

Trucks are 4WD mostly...... The Evo is AWD.....BIG difference.
But I would imagine if you could keep the tongue loading at almost zero, you could pull a very light tralier as long as the trailer and what it is carrying does not exceed the maximum loading capacity of the car, including the passengers and whatever else you have packed into the car.
Autox guys set cars up to tow their race tires on a very compact trailer all the time. And most of these cars are not rated to tow either.
