Im kind of Stuck with this CEL. Need Help

Have been daily driving my EVO 7 around for about 1 month now. before that it just has been chilling. Recently on a trip to New Jersey. My check engine light came on. I pulled over to see if everthing was ok. Checked lines, hoses, unusual sounds, gas cap, Everything. Drove for another 25 miles. It went off. After a couple days of driving it went on again. I reset the battery to see if that was the problem. After about 35 miles it went on again. I cant pull up a code and get the car scanned because im in Brooklyn,NY and they cant pull up a 2001 Evolution 7 on the autozone computer scanner.(One of the biggest cons of having this car) Im pretty much stuck. I just got into Mitsubishi about 5 months ago so i dont know the basic problems that can occur. Car still boosts great, Runs great, nothing too unusual, car is still idling at around 8-900.

Can someone give me basic ideas of what it can be maybe?

**forgot to add some information
Only mods on the car is
Apexi Catback
HKS Intake(came with car)
HKS SSQ BOV (came with car)

Car only has 6k miles

Sounds like it could possibly be an O2 sensor, they will give intermittent CELs like that sometimes

Did you put the exhaust on after you got it and then the light came on? If so you need to search for the anti fouler adapters on here for your $3 fix to your problem.

it sounds to me like a sensor is bad or is on its way out. you really need to find out a way to pull a code

it came with it
but it hasnt been on since. only recently. and it has to be something small because the car only has 6k miles. im guessing a sensor too.

Sounds like O2 sensors reading. Could be Cat or 02 sensors themselves. I'm going to bet the cat is going bad. Have you had it tuned?

doesnt matter
the day i picked up my EVO just over a year ago, when it had 11k miles and i pulled a CEL for an EGR. Obviously they replaced it.

You dont think there are any 'faulty' or 'bad' sensors out there?

if it WAS the sensor why would it go on and off? is there a reason behind it?

Wouldnt auto zone have a standard OBD-II scanner and wouldn't an EVO VII throw OBD-II trouble codes. I'd find someone with a scanner and try to pull the code

It couldn't necessarily be bad, it could be on its way out, giving you bad or wrong readings. Anythings possible, a wire might be loose, and every time its bounced or rubbed the wrong way, it could be gaining or losing power, thus making the check engine light go on sporadically.

Pull a code.. it will tell you exactly what's wrong or which sensor might be faulty.

this thread is useless without the code. Find a way to pull the code and report back.
